Catherine Orr, 14, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday afternoon from sudden head and spine injuries. Visitation is Friday at 6 o’clock at Biolack Funeral Home. Catherine will be buried Saturday at 11 at EnogCemetery.

Survivors include her parents, Wendy and James, her grandmother, and her brother, William.

Catherine loved to read and write. She also enjoyed playing her clarinet and bass. She was very involved and an avid learner, which unfortunately, led to her demise.

Catherine had always said, “Advanced Geometry will be the death of me.” Turns out, she was right. When Catherine walked into her math class on Thursday, she was attacked by a student with a geometry textbook. The attack was apparently unprovoked, so the murderer was apparently crazy.

In an attempt to prevent an incident like this from happening again, the school has eliminated all Advanced Geometry classes indefinitely.
