Catt took a hit of her cigarette and looked up at the sky.

"The stars have been shinging so bright, lately."

She looked down for a moment as she blew the smoke out of her mouth and said...

"Especially since I met you."

She looked up at Kay. Their eyes met and Catt couldn't look away. She wondered if Kay could perceive the intense longing she felt. Ever since Catt had met Kay, things just felt different. She felt different. She wanted to much to hold Kay's hand, to feel her lips caressing hers.

Kay just smiled and after a few seconds said "I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything," Catt replied, still holding her gaze.

They stood in awkward silence. Catt wanted to say so much. She wanted to do so much. She just couldn't find the breath to use her voice, or the coordination to move and think at the same time, and if she moved without thinking, she was too uncertain what the outcome would be. But after looking into Kay's eyes once more, she followed the urge to reach out and take her hand. She tried to make her eyes say what her mouth couldn't. Catt had never really looked Kay in the eye and told her that she loved her. She didn't want to make Kay feel uncomfortable, but she wanted so badly for Kay to really know how she felt. She had told Kay that she loved her online and in notes, even said it indirectly in person, but now, in this moment, she was battling with herself to feel like the situation was in control.

"I really want you to be happy," Kay said in a regretful voice.

"I am happy, Kay. You make me happy. I'm so thankful to have you in my life," said Catt, then she took another hit of her cigarette, breathed it in deeply, then blew it out.
