Out in the cold it’s harder to cry.
Cold air into my lungs
Accompanied by the sound of my shoes
Hitting the pavement.
Out in the cold it’s harder to feel dizzy
Even when each drag of my cigarette goes deeper.
I feel stronger,
Even though I may be weaker.
The dim street lights
Still hide what’s stirring inside,
The mixture of dark and light,
Of heat and cold,
Of love and pain.

Here, inside, it’s easier to cry
But I still hold it in.
I can feel my hands again,
Writing the words that were in my head,
And keeping my heart tipped so it pours
Like it does when I touch you.

Walking with my back to the wind is easier.
Walking with my back to your heart is harder.

I try to breathe it out,
Spit it out,
But the taste of uneasiness remains,
Like sour milk. It won’t go away.
I’m trying to turn the dials of my heart
To tune into your station.
I think I might need plyers.
It’s still unclear.

But all this, I like it.
Feeling is much better than being dead inside.
Fighting is better than failing.
Loving is more thrilling than falling.

This is who I am
And I just want you to see me,
Know me,
Touch me.
