I'm from the love of dogs and little kids,
From video games and parlor tricks,
I'm from Converse on the still wet grass,
From dry lightning storms and late night rain.

I'm from rebellion and a lucky chance,
From, "Take it easy," and, "It's not just your cross to bear."
I'm from a Disney blanket with rainbow patches,
And the smell of oranges on an old Pikachu plushy.

I'm from running in both fear and glee,
From believing that whatever happens is meant to be,
I'm from jumping off the swing,
And listening to my mom telling me I broke my arm.

I'm from the fearless Great-Grandma Yvonne,
From flat cream sodas and Super Smash Bros. Melee
At two in the morning with my Aunt Lindsay
I'm from something that's so much more than it seems.

Pictures that show old, new and unknown,
Stowed in the closet under the stairs,
With memory cards full of videos and voice memos,
From the past and where I'm from.
