A while ago I saw a competition on someone’s booksie page using pictures as prompts, I meant to enter but the page was lost in the booksie labyrinth and I couldn’t find it again. The photograph I was drawn to was similar to the one I’ve attached to this story. As soon as I saw it I thought of Auguries of Innocence written by William Blake.

‘ To see a world in a grain of sand,
and a heaven in a wild flower,
hold infinity in the palm of your hand
and eternity in an hour.’

Obviously all poetry is subject to the personal interpretation of the reader but I have always felt that it is a reminder that the extraordinary is commonplace; to me the words are beautiful and magical.
Inspired by the photograph I wanted to take the opportunity to create a back-story for the main character of my story ‘Incredible Incantations’. Maya is an accomplished witch but how did she get there? Hopefully these paragraphs will read a bit like diary entries.
