Patience woke up in a daze of confusion. She could not remember where she was or how she got there. She tried to sit up but her head was pounding with an unbearable pain. She could not even keep her eyes open for more than a second.
“Where am I?” she said her eyes still closed then she felt him touch the side of her face and whisper “you’re beautiful.”
Her breath caught and she felt his lips on hers. He was kissing her and to her amazement she was kissing him back. She felt her arms wrap around his neck. She felt like she was on fire, burning but as quick as the fire had come, it was gone. She felt him pull away and he was gone, it was like he was a dream.

Chapter # 1

Crack. Pop. Patience knew these sounds but could not fathom why she would be hearing them in her apartment. She slowly opened her eyes as she woke up dazed and confused from hearing the sounds of a fireplace in her apartment. The ceiling above her did not look like hers and nor did the feel of sheets she was lying on top of. She quickly closed her eyes again.

Maybe I’m still dreaming, she thought. For some reason she highly doubted that she was dreaming because her dreams were felt this normal by now someone with three heads would have sprouted up by now if this were one of her dreams.

She took a deep breath, opened her eyes and slowly sat up. The moment she tried to lift her head an unbearable pain shot through her forcing her to lay back down. The instant her head hit the pillow the pain was gone. She tried again but the same thing happened.

What was going on here? Where the hell was she? And why couldn’t she sit up? From what she glimpsed of the room, it was dark except for a fire blazing in the fireplace. The fire did not illuminate too much of the room but she could see a door on the other side of the room. She prayed it was the way out and not a closet. She saw a wooden table with a few books stacked on top of it carelessly and a few on the chair that was sitting next to it. She prayed those weren’t cook books on how to cook people. She knew she was lying on top of expensive red silk sheets in huge canopy bed surrounded by thick black curtains. So she decided who ever kidnapped, yes... she thinks she has been kidnapped, liked to read or cook...she hoped it was the former, had expensive taste and clearly did not like the light much seeing as she did not see a lamp anywhere in the room and the thick curtain surrounding the bed kind of gave it away.

Now that she sort of figured out her situation, she laid there trying to think about how she had gotten where she was which should have been the first thing a person who had no idea where she was would of thought of but she was like most people. The last thing she remembered was walking into her apartment building and opening her mailbox to check for the package she was supposed to get then.... from there it became blank. She tried to remember what happened next but when she tried pain shot through her and quickly left as soon as she thought of something else.

What was going on? Did they drug her? She had no clue but she knew she was going to have to get up soon before her kidnapper...or kidnappers came to check on her.

“I think it is too late for that,” a deep voice said out of the darkest corner of the room. Patience jumped up but was instantly forced to lay back down when an excruciating pain shot through her. “Someone has put a memory block on you...I think I can guess who that someone is.”

“Who are you?” Patience asked as soon as the pain subsided. “Why am I here?”

“I think I'm the one who is supposed to be asking that since you are in my bed,” the deep voice said stepping out of the corner, out of the darkness into the light of the fireplace.

“What?” Patience sat up abruptly, forgetting about the pain again. It was so unbearable like someone was stabbing her head before her body could even react she felt a hand quickly push her down.

“You mustn't sit up so quickly,” the deep voice ordered softly. Once the pain lessened, Patience opened her eyes to try to get a look at her abductor but his back was to the fireplace which kept his face cloaked in darkness. She was scared but knew she needed to get out of this situation. She had no idea how she got in this situation but she that she was going to get out of it...somehow.

“What is going on? Why does it hurt so much?” Patience said on the brink of tears that she was desperately trying to hold back. She watched him walk over to her and sit on the edge of the bed. She suddenly tensed up and the tears she was holding back started to fall down her cheeks.

“Shhh…don’t cry. I’m not going to hurt you. I promise. Whoever brought you here did not want you to remember anything. What is the last thing you remember?” he said gently so not to frighten her.

Patience took a deep breath. “I remember that I was walking into my apartment about 11:30 at night because I had just come from work and I was opening my mailbox...that is all I can remember without causing any pain to myself.” Patience could feel him staring at her. She waited for a response but nothing.

“Where am I?” she said hoping that he would help her escape or at least take the memory thing away. She closed her eyes as she felt more tears fall down her cheeks. How was she going to get out of this? She thought to herself. She can’t even sit up without pain, let alone try to find a way out.  She felt doomed.

When she felt him touch the side of her face and whisper “you’re beautiful” Patience was completely shocked then she felt his lips on hers. He was kissing her and to her complete and utter amazement she was kissing him back. She felt the fire instantly begin to build, slowly burning throughout her body. She felt her arms wrap around his neck as she wanted to draw him closer. She wanted the fire to completely consume her, she needed it to but as quickly as it came, it was gone. She felt him quickly pull away then a door opened and closed and she was alone.

Patience began to cry hard. She had no idea way she was crying, all she knew is that it felt like a part of her was ripped away in that moment. She cried and cried until sleep claimed her.

A few hours later... Patience slowly woke up. She didn’t open her eyes at first but sat up slowly and found there was no pain. She smiled and then slowly opened her eyes to find that she was still in the same place but the fire had gone out and it was dark and cold.

She got up from the bed and began to feel along the nightstand to find the wall, it was stone and cold. She thought it was a little odd that there was no lamp on the nightstand but they could have taken it out. She rubbed her hands together and began to feel along the wall. She found a wooden table with an empty metal vase on it then she found the door but it was locked. She felt along the wall some more searching for a light switch but found nothing at all as she reached the fireplace.

“No light but the fireplace?” she said then she slowly made her way back to the bed when she realized that she could she light seeping to on the floor from a window on the other side of the bed. She headed toward it. She was amazed that it was not locked as she slowly opened it until she could stick her head out. It was night and all she could see was a large field and dark forest. She looked down and realized why the window was unlocked because the only way down was to jump a good five stories down. A strong breeze blew and Patience quickly closed the window.

She had to figure out how to get out of here. She went back to the bed and searched around for the jacket she knew she had on before she was taken. She found it at the foot of the bed. She put it on and tried the door again. She jiggled and pulled but nothing. She was about to give up when she just decided to twist and pull. It worked! The door was jammed.

She inched the door open until she could stick her head out and looked down the stone hallway. There were lamps with lit candles along the wall with paintings of men fighting between each light.

“This is way too medieval for me,” she said stepping out into the hallway and looked down both sides finding neither end hopeful. She flipped a coin in her head and chose to go right. The hallway was much warmer than the room so she did not understand why she was still shivering. It was something about this place that scared her but what girl would not be scared? She was stuck in this creepy place in the middle of god knows where plus she had no idea how she got there and then there was that man or was that a dream?

She was almost to the end of the hallway when she heard voices coming from one of the rooms. It sounded like two men talking. She looked at the end of the hall and the door debating. Her curiosity won.

She walked toward door and found that it was ajar. There were two men one was an old man who looked to be in his sixties with white hair sitting on a long velvet couch, calm and collective, just listening to a man who looked to be in his late twenties but seemed to be older, rant and rave as he wore a hole in the floor.

“Why did he have to bring her here? And put her in my bed for God's sakes?” the man said running his hand through his hair.

His voice sounded familiar to Patience. She tried to peer deeper into the room so she could get a better look at the man but his back was turned toward her.

“Maxim, you have not had a woman in such a long time. I know what they did to you in that prison was horr-”

“No! It was hell!” Maxim said throwing a glass against the wall.

“I understand that,” the old man said standing up walking over to where Maxim threw the glass.

“Do you?” Maxim said glaring at the old man.

“Maxim, your brother brought the girl for you. He thinks you need to satisfy your thirst before you end up going mad.”

“My thirst does not need to be sated, thank you.” The old man just sighed.

“Father, it would be nice if you could tell my brother to mind his own business, I can perfectly well find a woman when I need one.” The old man looked at Maxim then touched a small gargoyle and disappeared through the wall next to the fireplace. Maxim stared after him for a minute then sat on the couch and put his head in his hands.

Patience slowly backed away from the door and started heading down the hall as quickly as possible. She could not believe what she heard. They kidnapped woman, gave them to men just to be raped.  She felt so sick and disgusted. For the first time she felt terror vibrate throughout her. She got to the end of the hallway and found two doors at both ends of the hall. She flipped another coin mentally, this time she chose left. She hurried quickly down the hall because she heard footsteps coming her way and went into the first door she came to that was unlocked.

When she got in the room she wanted to run right back out. There was a bed. The same as the last one she was in except all the sheets are dark blue and there is a naked man lying in it.

“And who may you be?”

“Umm....” she could not find any words to say. All she could do is stare into his eyes.

The man got up from the bed and walked toward her with a fierce look of lust in his eyes. He so was tall and muscular. Patience could not move she was paralyzed by his stare.

“You must be for me to taste.” He was so close to her that she could not breathe. He put an arm around her waist and slowly walked her over to the bed never taking his eyes from hers. It was as if she was under a spell because she knew she did not want him to touch her but still she could do nothing but look into his golden eyes.

He laid her down on the bed. “You must be my snack before my meal,” he said smiling as he slowly started to unbutton her shirt.

“Joseph, what may I ask are you doing?” a young blond woman with deep green eyes said standing naked at the front of the bed.

“About to enjoy a snack if you do not mind,” he said as he finished unbuttoning Patience's shirt.

“You want to taste her, when you can have me,” she said walking around the bed with her hands on her hips.

“I just want a little taste then you can taste, too,” he said as she climbed on the bed.

Patience could feel them kissing and licking on her but she could not move no matter how much she tried.

“I want to taste her first,” the woman said.

Patience watched them as they kissed each other and felt disgusted. She wanted to move but she could not. She wished someone would come and save her. Tears came slowly down her cheeks.

“Joseph. Beatrice. What is going on here?” the man who was ranting and raving in the other room said storming into the room. She knew it was him because of his voice.

“Maxim!” they said quickly moving off of Patience.

Patience felt the hold her loosen then slowly disappear until she could move again. As soon as she could she quickly jumped up and ran toward the door pushing the man out of the way. She flung the door open and ran toward the door across the hall. When she was about open the door and thought they would automatically look there first she stopped then turned around and ran the other way.  She heard them come out the room behind her and she went for the first door she saw. She closed and locked the door but was too distracted in trying to catch her breath that she did not realize walked into a room full of men.

Someone cleared their throat and Patience slowly turned around. She became paralyzed again but this time it was not because of a look. It was because she was paralyzed with fear. Each male had a look of lust in their eyes and some were already licking their lips.

“Ahh, you must be...if I can remember correctly...Patience,” a young man with light brown hair and green eyes said as he put down his drink and walked towards her.

“You’re more beautiful than I remember,” he said running a finger down her open shirt.

Patience finally found some inner strength to grab the doorknob behind her but he grabbed her hand and pressed it against her breast.

“You were a gift for my brother but seeing as he let you just wonder he must not want you,” he said squeezing her breast with her hand. “So I think I'll take you.”

He kissed and licked her neck. She could feel him drag what felt like his sharp teeth across her neck. She felt tears roll down her eyes. She just wanted him to stop torturing her and just get it over with.

“Michael, what are you doing?” Maxim said walking through a back door into the room.

Michael stopped kissing Patience's neck and turned around to look at his brother.

“I'm taking what you do not want?” he said turning around back to Patience.

“As usual but I never said I did not want her,” Maxim said crossing his arms.

Patience looked over Michael's shoulder at Maxim. It was the man that saved her from Joseph and Beatrice. He was almost the tallest man in the room. He had dark brown hair with sliver-gray eyes like the sky before a storm. He looked powerful and fierce but he did not have lust in his eyes.

Patience knew that he was the reason she had walked into the room to find him. She didn’t know how or way but all she knew is that she would be safe with him. He was her salvation and she just hoped to God that her instincts were leading her right.

Michael still had her hand on her breast. She tried to move it but his grip tightened. She knew she needed to get to him. She knew she would be safe with him.

“Then you do want her,” he said turning around to rise one eyebrow at Maxim. With that he loosened his grip giving Patience the opportunity she needed to run to Maxim. She ran to him and wrapped her arms around him.

Maxim was so shocked he did nothing but stare at her for a minute then he put one arm around her and walked her out the room. All eyes were on them.

When they were out of the room, he pried her off of him and saw that she was crying. He felt bad for her but she did wonder off but then again he did leave her.

“Why did you leave the room?” he said trying to be gentle.

Patience just stared at him and backed away wiping her tears away quickly.

“It wasn't a dream. You were there in that room with me and you kissed me.” Maxim felt trapped, he almost forgotten he had kissed her. It was such a dumb move but she was so beautiful. He decided to give himself a minute and turned his back on her.

“Don’t turn your back on me,” she said angrily.

“It doesn't matter. It was an accident, a mistake. Anyway, the point is why did you leave?” he said with his back still to her.

“What was I supposed to do stay here and wait to be killed or try to find a way to escape?!”

“You were supposed to-,” he said about turn around but he stopped before he looked at her.

“I was supposed to what?” she said crossing her arms becoming angry. Finally, he did turn around.

“You were supposed to stay in the room,” he stated his eyes growing bright silver with anger.

Frightened, Patience turned and ran quickly down the hall. As soon as Patience reached

one of the doors Maxim was within inches of her within seconds and pinned her against the door.

“L-le-let m-me g-go, p-pl-please,” Patience's stammered trembling as her heart raced a mile a minute but she did not know if it was because she was frightened or because he was so close to her.

“I can’t, not yet.” He kissed her and set her soul on fire. “I have just found you,” he said kissing her neck.

Patience felt a prick of pain then an explosion of pleasure. It was so powerful that she felt herself faint. When she woke up her shoes were off and she was back in the room with the red silk covers. She was lying beneath them. There was a fire burning in the fireplace and there was food sitting on the table. She could see daylight coming through the window. She couldn’t believe it was morning already. Patience felt so weak when she pulled the covers off it was as if her arms were made of lead.

She tried to move her legs but she could not find the strength to swing them out of bed. She just sat there and tried to remember what happened then she remembered the pleasure, which made her smile. She had never felt anything like that before in her life. It was so powerful. She could not believe she blacked out because of it.

“Are you hungry?” Maxim said from the darkest corner of the room. Patience lifted her head to see where he was.

“Yes, I'm hungry actually I'm starving but I'm too tired to get up,” she said. She could not keep her head up any longer. She heard movement in the corner. She heard him grunt then he was standing on the side of the bed. He looked at her in agony for a moment then he lifted her up and placed her at the table.

“What is your name?” he said with sadness in his voice.

“Patience, th-”

Before Patience could even manage to say thank you he was gone out the door. Patience just started eating her food feeling hurt that she caused him pain.

When she finished eating, she managed to get herself back to the bed by moving slowly, it took all her strength but she got there and she went back to sleep.

When Patience woke up again, she found that she had gotten some of her strength back and she decided to go find Maxim. She did not even want to think of the reason why she was looking for him instead of trying to escape. The door was jammed again but she managed to get it open. When she walked out the room she thought it would be hard to find him but somehow she knew exactly where he was.

She found him sitting in the room where she had eavesdropped on his father and him. He was sitting in a little alcove looking out the window in the corner of the room. She had not realized she had slept the day away and it was already nightfall.

“Why are you sitting here in the dark?” Patience said from the doorway.

“Why can't you just stay in the room?” he said without even looking in her direction.

“If you wanted me to stay put, you shouldn't have left the door unlocked. It's as simple as that,” she said coming to stand next to him by the window.

Maxim just grunted and continued to stare out the window.

“Why isn't there any electricity here?” she said not knowing what else to say.

“Let's just say, my family is a bit old fashioned,” he said looking at her and smirking a little then turning to stare back out the window.

“A-bit?” she said sitting down within the alcove next to him.

“Well, a lot. How are you feeling, Patience?” he said this time turning his whole body to her. Patience blushed and looked out the window this time.

“I feel okay, a little light headed but the food helped,” Patience said then shifted in her seat to face Maxim. “What did you do to me?  I can barely remember it but I do remember. I have never felt like that before. It was so powerful.”

Maxim did not know what to say to her. He bit her. He did not mean to but she smelt so good and he knew she would taste good but he was wrong she did not taste good. She tasted delicious. He almost found himself unable to stop before he killed her. He almost thought he had when she went limb in his arms but he could still hear her faint heartbeat. It was a little weak but he knew she would survive.

He stayed with her all night and made sure she had food when she awoke. He was going to leave when he heard her stir but he just could not. He did not know why she affected him like this. All he wanted to do was to be near her, touch her, and taste her. He could not tell her, there was no way. He had to stay away from her.

He stood up and walked out into the hall.

“Hey, wait!” she said following him. He just kept walking.

“Fine!” she said and turned around to walk back to the room. She grabbed her jacket and started to search for a way out again. This time she promised herself nothing would stop her. This time she chose to go left and this time she found a stairwell behind one of the doors that led her to the kitchens.

“Who are you?” a short, blue-eyed red head in blue jeans and a green polo shirt said to her.

“I'm Patience.”

“Are you one of Master Michael's friends?” she said putting down the basket of laundry she had in her hands.

“Yes. I'm lost.”

“Would you like me to show you back to-”

“No! I I was looking for my way out.”

“Oh! I'll show you then. Do you have a car?”

“Oh, then we can just go out the back. Grab your keys off the wall,” she said pointing to the wall to the right of Patience. Patience saw keys with a rabbit tail on it caught her eye.

“I got them,” she said taking the keys off the wall.

“Okay, follow me,” she said walking down the hallway then out a door.

When Patience felt the fresh night air she felt alive again. Patience had always been a night person. The night always rejuvenated her.

“Yes, I'm coming. I'm sorry.”

“No worries. I suspect your night person as well.”

“How did you know?”

“I could always tell your kind. It's in the way you breathe the night air. Now, here we are. Just point and you should find the car.” Patience pointed and the lights of a 2005 Volvo flashed. “That would be Master Maxim's car. I won't tell. I know Master Michael only had male guests today and the females were all prostitutes.”

“Thank you so very much,” Patience said as she practically ran towards the car.

Maxim was sitting on the roof of the mansion trying to get Patience's out of his mind, when he saw his car drive out of the garage.

“What the hell?” he said standing up then he just knew it was Patience in his car. He could feel her. Ever since he tasted her blood he could everything about her but he tried to block her out. Only when she was close that she invaded his thoughts in full force like now as she was trying to get away from him. He quickly jumped off the roof and landed on his feet, unhurt. He started running toward the garage and he saw their maid, Hope about to walk back into the house.

“Hope! Throw me the keys to my brother's car.”

“Yes, sir,” she said then she ran into the house to get the keys and threw them to him.

Patience did not know when she started crying but she felt the tears streaming down her face. She tried to wipe them away but they just keep flowing. She could not figure out why she was crying. She was finally free there was nothing left back there for her. She was so busy trying to figure out why she was crying that she did not see the lights of the black Chrysler Crossfire. It was coming up on her tail fast.

Maxim was furious. How dare she leave him? She was his, no one else's. She will leave when he says. He pulled up beside her car and rolled down the window.

“PULL OVER!!!” He yelled out the window.

Patience did not know what to do. One part of her wanted to just pull over then the other part just wanted to keep driving and never stop.

“PULL OVER NOW!!!” He yelled again and when she did not stop. He sped up and swerved in front of her. She came to an abrupt stop. He jumped out of the car, walked over to her car and opened the door.

All of Patience felt relief. Somehow, she knew he would come after her. He unbuckled her seat belt and pulled her out of the car then slammed the door shut.

“Are you crazy?” he said with fiery in his voice then he kissed her. He kissed her with so much passion that if he was not holding her she would have fallen to the floor. He pushed her up against the car and started kissing her neck.

“No....NO! STOP!” she said pushing him. He pulled away.

“I'm sorry,” he said breathing heavy like her. It started to rain.

Maxim and Patience just stared at each other for what felt like eternity then Maxim held out his hand and she took it without any hesitation. She knew right at this moment she had lost her senses completely but she didn’t care. They got into his car and just left Michael’s car in the middle of the road.

When they got back to the house, they walked through the back running into Hope who was walking into the kitchen.

“Hope,” he said.

“Yes, sir,” she said this time with an empty laundry basket in her hand.

“Tell my brother that if he wants his car to stay in perfect perfection then he better go get it out of the middle of the road.”

“Yes, sir,” she said walking out of the kitchen to go tell Michael the news.

Walking back to Maxim’s room was the longest journey, mentally, that Patience had ever taken. She knew that she wanted to be there with him but she was also afraid.

“Ease your mind. I will not do anything to you do not want me to and I will not harm you,” he said when they had gotten to his bedroom door.

When he opened the door, there was already a fire burning in the fireplace, making the room cozy and warm.

“Relax. You’re building my tension with your tension,” he said as he took off his jacket and sat on the bed. “Come sit,” he said patting a spot right next to him. As nervous as Patience was, there was no hesitation walking over to him and sitting on the bed next to him.

“Why are you trembling?”

“Because I want to -” he kissed her.

He slowly slid off her jacket and laid her back on the bed moving his kiss from her lips to her neck then slowly down her chest as he unbuttoned her shirt. He looked up at her when he finished undoing the last button.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes,” she said trembling.

“Then why are you still trembling?” he said sitting up some more.

“Maxim…I’ve never done this before,” she said looking away from him.

Maxim was shocked but now he understood. It gave him so much joy to know that he would be the first to make love to her.

“It’s okay. It brings me such joy to know that I will be your first.” And hopefully you’re last. He said as he kissed her again on the neck making his way back up to her lips.

He lifted her and took her shirt off then unbuttoned her bra. He pulled away from her and slid off her bra then sat back to look at her. Patience tried to cover herself but he stopped her.

“Don’t. You’re beautiful,” he said as he stared into her eyes then started to stroke the side of her breast.

Patience closed her eyes, savoring the pleasure. She never wanted anything more than this moment. She knew that she was supposed to be here and that this was supposed to happen. She needed this to happen. He took her whole breast into his hand and started to knead it gently. He brought his mouth down onto the nipple and began to suckle it. Patience moaned. He moved over to her other breast making a slow path across with his tongue making her moan louder when he reached the nipple.

He unbuttoned her pants sliding them off then he slipped his hands inside her panties. He found her mound of pleasure as she called out his name.

“Maxim,” she said in pleasure.

He looked up at her and smiled. He continued to stroke her then slowly he slipped a finger into her slick wetness and then another. She was so wet for him. He slowly began to move inside her. Patience felt it building inside slow yearning that needed to be satisfied. He began to move faster until he felt her muscles tightening around his fingers. He smiled as he flicked her bud of pleasure making convulse as she reached her peak.

As Patience slowly came back down from heaven, she opened her eyes to see his handsome face as he leaned down to her and whispered in her ear. “How do you feel?” Patience had no words for him. She just kissed him.

She broke the kiss and lifted the hem of his shirt and pulled it off.  She slowly kissed his chest and took his nipple into her mouth. She heard him groan and leisurely moved to the other nipple. She unbuttoned his pants and as she was about to put her hands in them he stood up.

Maxim could hear her heart pounding in her chest as she watched him in confusion then in the complete that came across her face as she realized he was taking off his pants. The pleasure it brought him knowing that it is was not pounding out of fear but from wanting him.

Patience knew that he would be big but she was not expected him to be so thick and long. Just looking at him made her wetter, she wanted him to be inside her right now.

Maxim moved back onto the bed and kissed her. He kissed his way down her chest then her stomach stopping at the top of her panties.

He looked up at her and licked his lips. He hooked his fingers under her panties and slid them off. He could smell her wetness; it made him groan in anticipation. He brought his lips down on her inner thighs and bit down.

Patience screamed with pleasure she had never felt anything like it before. It was as if she had come all over again. After he bit her, he moved up her thigh to find her bud of pleasure and flicked it with her tongue a few times before she came again.

“Ma-Ma-Maxim!” She screamed out. He brought himself up to her lips and kissed her passionately then looked into her eyes.

“Are you sure about this because I can stop if you want?”

“Yes, I want this, Maxim,” she said with all her heart because this is truly what she wanted.

He kissed and then slowly entered her. He did not want to cause her any pain. He stopped when he felt her maidenhead.

“This is going to hurt so I’m going to do it quick, okay?” She nodded. He drove into her fast hoping that it would not cause her much pain. He watched as she tried not to scream out in pain. He didn’t move so she could get used to the feeling of him.

“Are you okay?”

“Y-yes” He started to move in a slow rhythm building their pleasure. She began she move with him making him move faster. She started to moan and then scream his name until she convulsed in his arms from pleasure. He continued to move riding the aftershocks of her orgasm until he came. He sluggishly moved off of her, exhausted and pulled her to his side wrapping her in his arm. “Are you okay?” he said turning to her.

“Yes, I am fine. I am more than fine actually,” she said smiling and snuggling more into his arms.

“Okay, get some sleep,” he said kissing her forehead then Maxim did something he had not done in a long time. He fell asleep for the first time in a long time.

About midnight, someone came banging on his door. He tried to ignore it but the person just kept banging.

“I know you’re in there, Maxim open up!” Michael said continuously banging on the door.

Maxim forced himself to get up from the warm coziness of her softness.

“You better have a good goddamn reason for disturbing me,” he said opening the door and slipping out.

“What do you want Michael?”

“You owe me a new car.”

“Are you serious? Please do not tell me that is the reason why you woke me out of my sleep?” he said wanting to kill Michael.

“Sleep. You sleep?” he said laughing out loud. “You have not slept since we found you unless-”

Michael tried to peer over his shoulder into his room but Maxim blocked his view.

“Actually I was sleeping.”

Michael just stared at Maxim for a minute, looking him up and down, realizing that Maxim was standing in his robe. “She is in there, isn’t she?”

“If you must know she is,” he said now crossing his arms.

“Oh, I am so sorry, big bro. You should have told me. I’ll make sure no one disturbs you,” he said with a smile on his face.

“Good. Goodnight,” he said walking back in the room and closing the door.

He walked over to his bed and looked down at this beautiful woman that his brother brought to him. As soon as he saw her he felt a need to protect her and the urge to make her his which was scary. He had never a need for a mate but as soon as he saw her face he knew she was his. He did not want a mate especially one that did not know what he really was. She needed to stay in her own world and live her life the way she was meant to live it. Without him.

He looked at Patience trying to imprint every detail of her face in his mind. He knew he could not keep her here. He knew he had to let her go.

Patience woke up the next morning with a smile on her face. She could not remember the last time she had felt like this. She rolled over only to find an empty space. She sat up and found the curtain had been pulled closed around the bed.

“Maxim, Where are you?” she whispered to herself as she pulled the curtain back looking around the room. Patience sighed and laid back down hoping that Maxim would walk through the door at any moment. She hoped so much that she fell back to sleep.

When she woke up again she found the curtain pulled back and her breakfast sitting on the table, still hot. She sighed this time getting up and putting on her clothes. She could see that it was night. She could not believe that she slept the day away again. “Where could he have gone?” she said out loud to herself. She promised herself that she would go find him as soon as she ate. She felt so drained but she wanted to find him. She needed too.

Maxim was walking on the roof when he sensed her. She was looking for him. He was not ready to face her just yet because if she felt what he felt last night he would never be able to let her go.

Patience walked cautiously into the kitchen looking for Maxim only to find his brother, Michael.

“Hey, Sleeping Beauty, I see you came looking for me,” he said getting up from the mahogany island in the middle of the kitchen and walking towards her. “What? My brother could not satisfy you?”

“Excuse me?!” she said quickly stepping back when he tried to touch her arm. “I was just looking for Maxim, not YOU!”

“Oh, well in that case, what may I do for you?” he said dropping his hand.

“Do you know where he is?”

“So, he did abandon you?” he said mockingly.

“No, he did not!”

“Well, he’s probably on the roof, where he goes to think.”

“How do I get there?”

“I’ll show you but he’s not going to like it,” he said with a smug smile on his face.

He walked past her to the stairs and turned around to look at her.

“You do know he is trying to avoid you, that is, the only reason he went to the roof.”

“Oh,” she said debating whether she wanted to still find him. “Just show me the way.”

“Okay, it’s your death. He does not like to be disturbed when he’s trying to think,” he said beginning to walk up the stairs. Patience followed. As they were walking Michael seemed annoyed with her.

“Is there something wrong?” she said when they reached the top of the stairs.

“I forget how slow you people walk,” he said continuing down the hall.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Nothing,” he said walking toward the end of the hall to what looked like a closet door and opened it up to a spiral staircase.

“Just follow the torches all the way to the top,” he said gesturing the stairs with his hand.

Patience walked through the door and looked up. It was a long way up. She looked back at Michael.

“For you, it’s the shortest way to the roof.”

“You can’t be serious?”

“Sure, as rain” he laughed. She looked up again then back at Michael but he was gone.

Patience sighed and started up the stairs. It felt like it was hours before she reached the door but it was only minutes and when she opened it to the night air, she breathed. She felt so alive. She had always loved the night air, she always felt rejuvenated.

She looked around and saw him sitting on the edge of the roof with one leg hanging off and the other bent up as he lay against a stonewall. She walked toward him.

“Did you plan on avoiding me all night?” she said stopping near him.

“No,” he said still staring off into the distance not bothering to look at her.

“Then why did you leave me?” she said stepping closer to him.

“I needed to clear my head so I could decide,” he said turning to look at her.

“Decide what?”

“Decide to take you back,” he said standing up. “Look, you do not belong here. I’m sorry my brother ever brought you here. You need to go back. I can’t keep you.”

Patience thought she was supposed to be happy to hear those words but somehow those were not the words she wanted to hear. She felt like her heart was breaking but she did not even know how that was even possible.

“I agree. I need to go back,” she said turning away from him.

“You do?”

“Why would I want to stay here? I was kidnapped and brought to this house of freaks…a-and r-raped.”

Patience never regretted saying anything more than those words. The look of pain in his eyes sliced through her. Her eyes glistened with tears.

“I’m sorry that you were brought here. I’ll take you back now,” he said walking toward her and standing in front of her, looking into her eyes. “I never meant to hurt you.”

He walked past her through the door.

“Come on,” he said.

She followed him back to the kitchen where he took his keys off the wall and walked out to his car. He opened the door for her. Before she got in the car, he took her face in his hands and kissed her with everything he felt for her. She kissed him back as fiercely as he kissed her. She put everything she felt in that kiss. She felt him stop then pull away.

“Open your eyes and look at me, Patience,” he said with such passion in his voice. She opened her eyes and looked at him.

Maxim felt her go limp in his arms. He tried not to use his powers ever but he had to put her to sleep so she would never know how to get here. He put her in the car careful and shut the door. He was about to walk around to the other side when he saw his brother standing in the doorway. He stopped.

“Why are you taking her back? She’s your mate. I can feel it between you two,” Michael said stepping out of the doorway.

“I don’t want her to be part of this life, Michael,” he said looking at his brother.

“It’s too late. She already is.”

“Not if I take her back.”

“When you tasted her she became part of this life, you will never be able to endure being away from her.”

“I can. I must. For her. She never tasted me so it will be just me who has to endure.”

“I’ll never understand you. I knew she was for you the first time I saw her-”

“I wish you would have never brought her to me. She would have been better off if she never met me at all.”

“Maxim, I-”

“I understand you were trying to make me better and I thank you for that but I just can’t.”

Maxim walked around the car and got in then drove away.

When Patience woke up, the last thing she remembered was his eyes.
