To her, she was nothing,
But to him, she was all.
Her warm tears fall to his chest
Like crushed crystals
As they realise this was their last embrace.
So bitter-sweet, like falling leaves at autumn
Floating to the lonely, hostile ground.
Can you feel the warmth between us cooling off?
The sparks fizzle out, the fires extinguished
The lights dimmed, and it's just us.
Two people. Two hearts. Two lives.
My heart's heavy and my mind's a mess
Let me run my fingers through your hair
And stroke your unshaven face
Close your eyes and dream away our past
Let it skip by like projector slides
Weathered and faded smiles
That were once crisp, glossy Polaroids.
Kiss me as you leave, this last time
But don't meet my tearful gaze
Stop my palm grasping for yours.
And I'll cease reaching for you at night
To place your arm 'round my shoulder
Because this is last chance saloon
Last chance us.
