“Hey, Kris!” Shannon Carney cried after she opened the apartment door.

My full name is Kristana-Marie Jacob, but everyone calls me Kris for short. I’m 16 years old and go to Adams Highschool with Shannon, whom is my eternal best friend. I have wavy brown hair, am abnormally short (which I was teased for all through elementary school), and I’ve been told that my misty, blue-gray eyes seem to see right down into a person’s soul, or whatever.

I strolled into the enormous apartment that Shannon, her older brother, and their mom (when she was home. She traveled a lot for business) shared. Glancing out the window, I envied their terrific view of Central Park, New York City.

“So I guess I’ll go get the stuff for the science project. When is it due?” Shannon asked.

“Umm… Thursday, I think, Let’s hurry up on this project. I want to go see ‘Ironman’* at the Cinema tonight.”
“ ‘Kay,” and she raced upstairs to the second floor of the apartment.

Seeing as Shannon’s home was, like, a second home to me, I flopped down on the overstuffed, green couch. Just then, Craig, Shannon’s 19-year-old brother, came loping into the room. Something was different about him since the last time I had seen him. He had the same shaggy red hair, the same deep, chocolaty brown eyes. He had the same style: skinny jeans covering his long legs and a band t-shirt over his buff chest. Today, his shirt read, “The Get Up Kids”*.

“Hey, Kris,” and he plunked down inches from me, onto the couch. Grabbing the remote, he gracefully flicked on the TV (until that moment, I been unaware that anyone could turn in a TV. gracefully) and gazed at the baseball game.

I felt this strange electricity in the air and couldn’t help wondering where Shannon was. I glanced quickly at Craig and suddenly noticed how HOT he was. Feeling my gaze, he looked at me and I quickly moved my stare back to the TV.
The I felt his hand under my chin as he turned my head back towards him and my heart started doing funny things as he slowly leaned in.

Kissing Craig Carney was not like kissing the smooth boys in high school. It, somehow, was different and so SO much better. Suddenly, he pulled away, shock written all over his face.

“Umm… sorry,” he muttered. “I didn’t mean to do that. I mean I wanted to, but-“ I cut him off by pulling his face close to mine again and easing my mouth over his. I felt him smile against my lips and he laced his hands in my hair.

No power on earth could have made me pull away from Craig. Nothing except- Shannon came thundering down the stairs as we leapt apart.

“Oh, hi Craig,” she said. “Kris and I are working on a science project here, okay?”

“Sure.” Glancing at me, Craig and I silently agreed no to tell Shannon, yet.

“So, anyway, I finally found the stuff. Come on.”

I followed her feeling guilty about not telling her that I had just made out with her brother.
