Nails upon his wretched back
Did scratch and scar, and gouge and hack
To gouge away, restraint, he lacked
With every slash, upon his back.

To thee i shalt not lead astray
With every breath, you take away
The shackled beast lies broke and bent
The smell of absinthe, heaven sent

The scars now swollen, forever seen
To scar myself, i did not mean
Now every time you look beneath
Reminds me of the pain and grief

Blade upon his beaten chest
Did slice and hack and form a crest
And every night he did not rest
Lest beasts did haunt, and taunt and jest
