Ok, this is a poem I wrote for my drama performance and I thought I'd share it with y'all. It's about an Australian family and their tough times throughout the Black Saturday fires and the Queensland floods. Please feel free to comment!

Fires and Floods

At first, it all seemed so surreal
I stop packing, and look up to the skies
At first, I didn't know how to feel
I find myself thinking of the flames, the smoke beginning to rise

My family and I are sheltered and safe, but everything's fallen apart
Beating like a drum in my chest, lies my heart
I have to help my family, but where do I start?

It was too hard to live with, the devastation...
Lost lives, - we can't stay here - lost souls and relations
We'll move away to new lands
We'll move away to *Queensland

Panic is everywhere, in all shapes, sizes and forms
Funny how it all started with the beating of the storm
The people, the houses, all washed away with the new found sea
Slowly and depressingly, it starts to clear, exposing horror and debris

Now at least, we still have each other
Now at least, we can once more start with a clean slate
We're a family, and we have one another
All that has happened is just simply our fate

--So what do you think? If you don't understand, I'll explain:
A couple years back, Australia had a devastating fire, killing many, and is known as Black Saturday. Recently, a fraction of Australia had been soaked to the tips of houses by waters. This poem is about a (fictional) family who went through the pains of Black Saturday, soon deciding to move away to Queensland, encountering floods. I tried to show in the last verse that even though through all the pain this (fictional) family went through, in the end, they still stuck together as a family.

*Queensland: A state on the north-east of Australia, recently attacked by floods

Please, please, PLEASE tell me your thoughts!--
