When I walk across the bridge I see the other side
I must make it across to see what is there
But the view I get is not what I expect
There is a great door or gate or maybe it’s a wall
There is a reason I cross but the reason isn’t clear
But this is not my first trip over this long span
It is always dark and spooky before I can get across
There is a faint laugh or chuckle or cry behind me
I strain to hear it as I walk across slow
Is it someone following me? I don’t know
It seems that there is a person or thing
That is closing in, closing in on me
When it seems that there is nowhere to go
And the thing following me may be getting close
The darkness closes in all around
I see far off lights, perhaps from town
But when it seems so gloomy and all dread may be near
When my heart is racing and full of fear
When there is no way I can get away for it all
I wake up with a scream because it feels like I was going to fall
