Childhood friends always together. Best friends, best lovers?

Ariel and Jacob had been friends since they were in diapers. They were always hanging out together, you could never find one without the other. It stayed this way all through school too. But as the years went on in high school their feeling for each other changed. Matter of fact I think it was about the end of their tenth grade year, they both realized they had feeling for each other, but never told the other. They feared that if they told each other it would ruin their friendship. Neither thought the other loved them back. It was a hard year for both of them, they were having a lot of problems at home so they turned to each other more and more as that year went on. Their feelings growing stronger each day. They had always told each other they loved them but they both knew it was in a friendly way, nothing more. Soon the end of the year rolled around and they couldn’t be happier. It was time to spend every day at the lake or just hanging out with each other. But first they had to survive the last week of school. It was full of exams so they were having to spend all their time studying, but you know Ariel and Jacob, never would they be away from each other. It just so happened that they had all the same classes so they were having study nights all that week. Luckily what was ones weak point was the others strong point so they were sure they would both pass and have fun in the 11th grade together next year. They studied hard all week and spend many hours cramming everything in to insure they would both pass. Friday morning came and they were both ready to see their final scores. They rode to school together that morning just like all the other times and walked into school together, ready to see their results. Ariel had had a weird dream the night before, it wasn’t the first time she had had one like it. It was just like all the others, Jacob and her laying together, out in the park late at night, just looking up at the sky watching the stars. What Ariel didn’t know was that Jacob had had that same dream the night before, and just like his best friend it wasn’t the first time he had had it. Neither one ever told the other of this dream unlike they did all the others, both fearing the others reaction. So they were both caught up in their thoughts that morning, not really talking with the other much. Until they got to school and some of their other friends saw them walk into the building. For years now Jacob and Ariel had been teased by their friends about them dating and others saying they would be the prefect couple. Sure they both loved the idea but they never shared those thoughts with each other. They always said no we are fine being best friends, but unknown to each other, their hearts broke a little more every time this was said. Yet this time when their friends started saying all those things this morning, neither one was in the mood. They ended up getting in a little argument with their friends and then later that day with each other. The only time they really talked was when they all found out they had passed their finals. The ride home that afternoon for Ariel and Jacob was awkward to say the least. They hadn’t really talked since this morning when their friends started teasing them like normal. For some reason each one had taking it more to heart then normal, the other was left wondering why. Jacob dropped Ariel off at her house without saying a word then drove the last block to his house. The night just trickled by minute by minute. Both sat on their beds staring at their cell phones, waiting for a call or text from the other. Finally 10:30 rolled around and neither had heard a word from the other. Ariel had decided that laying down and trying to sleep would be the best thing for now. Maybe she could just lay in bed and forget all about today, yeah right like that would happen. At 10:45 Jacob couldn’t handle it anymore, he called Ariel. Ariel was almost asleep when her phone started going off, she knew that ring tone it was Jacob’s. Rolling over and grabbing her phone off her night stand she answered it. “Hey,” said Ariel sleepily. “Hello, I’m glad you answered, sounds like I caught you just in time too. A little tired are we?“ Jacob chuckled, “Anyways I wanted to talk with you, mind meeting me at the park in fifteen minutes? If you don’t want to get out of bed I understand, I’ll just talk with you some other time.” “No its fine, as long as you don’t mind if I’m in my pajamas,” said Ariel. Jacob replied, “Nope I don’t care, so I’ll see you in fifteen right?” “Right,” came Ariel’s reply. Click, Jacob hung up. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes Ariel slowly got out of bed and found a pair of shoes to wear. Once she found a pair of flip-flops to slide on she headed downstairs. She ran into her mom in the living room, “Where are you going at this time of night, young lady?” asked her mom. Ariel looked at her mom and said, “Jake wants to talk with me and he was wondering if I’d go met him at the park, its okay right?” Her mom seemed to be in deep thought then responded, “Well since its Jake, just be careful and tell him I said hello.” With that Ariel was out the door, the park was only about a block and a half from her house, it wouldn’t take her long to get there. Meanwhile with Jacob, he hung up the phone and took a deep breath, “Well its tonight or never,” he said to himself. He quietly walked towards the door, making sure not to wake anyone up, but it was just his luck that his mom was sitting in the kitchen drinking a cup of tea. Luckily though all she did was smile at him and say, “Don’t let her walk out of your life son.” He just gave her a quick smile and a nod, then was out the door. The park was only half a block from his house, so he didn’t have long to get his thoughts straight. Before he knew it he was at the park, he looked around for Ariel she was no where in site, then he looked at his phone, it read 11:02. Slightly laughing he said to himself, “Just like normal, always a little on the late side.” He found a nice spot under one of the trees, sat down and rested his back against it. Looking up at the stars, Jacob lost himself in his thoughts. This is how Ariel found him five minutes later when she arrived. Slowly she walked up to him, being carefully not to scare him she quietly said, “Sorry for being late but you know me.” This broke Jacob from his thoughts, looking at Ariel he said, “Yea, its all good. Why don’t you come sit down?” She walked over next to him and sat. Neither said a word for five minutes, both were going back over the days events in their head. “I’m sorry about today,” they both said at the same time. Laughing they looked at each other and at that split second something sparked between them. Leaning in carefully Jacob kissed Ariel, shocked at first, she had no idea what to do. Quickly over coming her shock, Ariel kissed him back. Both slowly pulling away, neither daring to look the other in the eyes scared of what they might see there. Ariel was the first to speak, “Jacob, you know you’re my best friend. We’ve know each other since we were in diapers, which is kind of a scary thought, but anyways. Over the past few years my feelings for you have changed a lot, no longing do I look at you as my best friend, but now its something more then that. I’ve been scared to say it but Jacob, I love you.” By the time she was done talking she had dared to look into Jacob’s eyes, what she saw there amazed her. At first there was shock, then understanding and finally the one she had wanted to see for so long, love. “Ariel, well I guess its time you know the truth too, see I love you too, I have for awhile now, I just never knew how to tell you. I was scared if I told you I would ruin our friendship. But I don’t think I have to worry about that anymore,” said Jacob with a bright smile. With all the arguing from earlier that day forgotten, Ariel and Jacob laid under the tree, staring up at the twinkling stars. Slowly drifting off to sleep in each others arms, they both said to themselves, “So dreams do come true.”
