I was spread like a lazing stick-insect whilst my dad seated next to me on our sofa. Coronation Street played in the background, being watched by neither of us but to just sit there in the background, as though someone else was doing all of the talking. My mum and her friend were in the other room, whilst the friend was helping with the house.

My dad begins to play to me the music of his childhood. Most people groan when this happens and proceed to leave the room, but my dad grew up in an age where music was made purely to make one feel alive, so we just lived together in the moment. We laughed together, we mumbled parts of the song together and there came a point where it would be perfect to end our moment, and so we did.

It was a small moment, honestly. I sat there with an old man reliving the days of his youth, and with the questionable direction of where the world is going right now, you take those moments to spend with your old man and remember that life isn’t always a total pain in the ass.
