Status: Finished  |  Genre: Poetry  |  House: Booksie Classic

A poem about my sudden rise of popularity from being featured on the Booksie homepage with my poem "Barely Breathing" and the aftermath...

Peace is prevalent,
Quiet is the new norm,
Could barely breathe from all the hype,
That was brought on before,
Poetic words seem like headlines,
On the tabloids,
For a glimpse of fame,
For a poet so new to the game,
Great praise brings forth,
New fans,
Admiration,
Desire to be a talent like you,
Publicity from a poem,
That is from the heart.

With every perk to fame,
Comes the darker side,
Stardom brings forth,
Great criticism and unwanted attention,
Not my taste; sounds familiar,
Copy and paste; unoriginal,
Endless is the critical words of the critics that abound,
Such harsh words damn a poet to emotional darkness,
So cold and haunting,
Motivation seems so fleeting,
And so bleak,
Never imagined poetic words,
So simple, yet meaningful,
Draw much attention like a Hollywood premiere,

Publicity subsides,
What to do?
They want more,
Expectations high,
Screaming with anticipation,
Pressure is on to deliver,
A poem as masterful as is perfection,
Failure is not an option,
Yet never seems to escape the mind,
One chance,
Make it or break it,
Failure to impress,
A harsh word that is called fluke,
Whispers from peers in poet’s society.

Just when does one realize the magnitude of it?
Was it all worth it?
Does one prefer the small following?
Or the A-list status?
Poetic words only speak from the heart,
How it’s receipted,
Is only up to the audience,
Beware what you wish,
Beware the outcome,
Beware.

I can sympathize with you Christian. Look at my poem 'Ice Cream'! I've never been able to top it.

Funny enough, Imagine not being able to get back into your account and realizing from a review one person gave that there are grammatical flaws in your most popular poem. Haha Thankfully I've been able to fix them, but no matter what I've write now, I will never get as many reads and reviews like that again. I've tried all the food poems and nothing has come close.

Look at one hit wonders in music, popular as hell for one great hit, then the next album comes out and it's not received as well. It happens all the time.

There will always be critics in every field of endeavor. Expect them. But continue writing most of all and write because you love to, not to make the feature page. This is what I've learned.

Yes, I do remember your poem "Ice Cream" being on the featured page before...sorry about the inconvience you had before, but glad that everything all worked out and I agree fully with what your saying.

I'm finding out that no matter how much you promote or comment on people's works...I've never been able to get the amount of reviews and likes like I did with my "Barely Breathing" poem. Although, a couple poems that I published recently have gotten a following..."Don't Tell Me" and "Masterpiece".

I know that I won't make the featured list again no matter what...so I'm happy to just be able to write from the heart and read the comments I do get from the fans that care about my work.

Thanks for the comment! XD

It was a great feeling, but at the same time you also get the kind of attention that is unwanted, which I now realized when I look back at it.

The hardest part now is being able to live up to expectations from those that read "Barely Breathing" and hope that the follow-up poems/works will be as good.

Thanks for commenting and glad to see you back! XD

Fame comes with a price. I hope you can handle it and not be discouraged by negative comments!

But anyhow, this is another wonderful poem of yours. I really love it. Great job!! :)

Thank you! I've handled the negative comments well; if anything its taught me alot about myself as a poet and taught me ways to be a better poet if anything.

Your comments mean so much! Thanks!

amazing..straight from the heart..
we have to accept the fact that no matter how true our feelings are, there are still people who will not believe it.. and another thing, there are some incidents that no matter how nice a masterpiece we made, still, criticism is always here and there, especially for the famous ones.. well, that's one of the consequences of being popular.. i know you can handle it^^
p.s. nice job! :) this is a must read poem!! :)

nicely done. yeah, you were up there a long time (i mean that featured page) and i never gave any thought to it other than i wanted to get on there. never even dawned on me that there might me negative repercussions. well we live and learn, and since i'm a lot older than you i suppose a tiny bit of advice might be permissible. i would say forget about topping yourself, and just write. don't be misled into thinking that which was posted was your best. it may be simply that the posting caused the stir. settle down and enjoy being yourself doing what you love. (okay, i'm done doing the dad thing. bye!)

No, actually I like what your saying. I was on the featured page for slightly over 2 months.

The hardest part was before Booksie disabled non-members from commenting on people's works I got slammed by comments that were downright offensive. Of course, I deleated them off, but still it wasn't a good feeling knowing that people can be that cruel.

Your also right about the misled into thinking that what post is your best. I truly believe that my poem "Love Remains the Same" would of been a far better choice to be featured over my "Barely Breathing" poem. "LRTS" is my personal favorite poem that I've ever written and I think no matter what I create from this point on...they will never top it.

Thank you for your words of wisdom and I'm glad you like it!

Hi Christian! Its great to see when the author creates their own personal style of writing which gives him sense of identity and authenticity. This four different stanzas in center formatting give this poem easy flow with a lot of different emotions swirling around when one experiences fame. Great poem!!! Kindly when you have time I would like you to read my poem Yield Your Sword and give me your thoughts on it. Thanks
