I’ve always wanted to be able to fly. When I was a little kid, I was always falling over as I flapped my arms to try and get off the ground. My favourite game was always when my Dad would pick me up and swing me around in his arms. So this, this moment, it seemed… surreal. Maybe it was just a dream, a fantasy that my mind had built around me.
“Go on. All you have to do is jump and you’ll feel the wind take you higher.” He wrapped his arms around me for reassurance, letting me know that this was real and that I could actually do this. My gorgeous man, he had such faith in me. I turned my head so I could smile up at him. Gently unwinding myself from his embracing arms, I walked slowly to the edge of the cliff. Looking down, a small seed of doubt planted itself in my mind. Shaking my head to clear it, I unfurled my brand new, and utterly beautiful, wings and jumped.
That piece of doubt fluttered away almost immediately, like a butterfly being chased by a cat. I wasn’t plummeting to my death. I was flying, truly flying. It felt magical and somehow natural. I laughed with joy as I took in the wondrous view beneath me. My dream had come true! Looking back towards the cliff I watched as my angelic boyfriend followed after me, more gracefully of course. He was also smiling and laughing, pleased that I was enjoying myself.
You see, vampires and werewolves are not the only creatures that can infect people and make them abnormal. Angels are perfectly capable of doing the same, so long as both people involved in the process truly wished it to happen. That was what happened to me. Freshly infected, this was my first time flying, and I could tell that it was not going to be my last.
My partner came up to me, eyes on my smiling mouth. I could tell that he was going to kiss me. I fluttered away, teasing him by brushing my large and swooping wings against his. I could feel and move them with ease, as if they were flowing extensions of my body. I travelled slightly further out of his reach, grinning widely. He started toward me, but I took off, soaring as fast as I possibly could. The chase, the wind, the experience. It was exhilarating, it was ecstasy. I was flying!
