There did the rag doll lie,
Sobbing, breathless.
She closed her button eyes,
And decided that this was her time to give up.
And so she lies alone and still,
Waiting for the cool caress of death.

Something honey-sweet and warm forced her eyes open,
And what she saw was the radiant sun,
There, in all her glory.
And she says,
Sun, I will have nothing to do with you,
For all that you bring is a burning lust.

The sun faded into a small; shimmering star,
And the rag doll turned away and forgot,
And yet each time she looked to the lovely stars,
She found the one that sparkled the most.

The rag doll found herself left in that cold, dry world,
And so she would look to the stars each and every day and say,
Stars, lovely stars free for me,
Have no doubt there I’ll find a new one.

The rag doll gave up once again.
Stars are all the same,
No one could ever be right for me.
I am this rag doll,
With these buttons all askew,
This stringy hair all a mess,
I’m just a rag doll who refuses to wear a dress.

The rag doll fell asleep beneath the stars,
And in her dream she saw the sun.
Sun, O beautiful Sun!
Sun, adorable Sun!

When she awoke there was the sun,
And the sun stayed.
There did the rag doll lie,
Sobbing, breathless.
She closed her button eyes,
And decided that this was her time to give up.
And so she lies alone and still,
Waiting for the cool caress of death.

Something honey-sweet and warm forced her eyes open,
