First off, I'd like to start with a big huge warm welcome to everyone crazy enough to be sitting in this blistering heat just to see us get handed a scrap a paper some of you might call diplomas.

Now that you think about it, these diplomas, they are something. They symbolize the remarkable level of individuality and education that all of you have developed over these past one, two, or three years at this school. Furthermore, these diplomas symbolize the breathtaking level of pain that you may, or may not, have achieved over the years.

But, as they say, life is pain.

You know, my dad used to say to me, whenever I asked him what a word meant, he would say something very wise. He said there is one of these beautiful thingsÂ; they are called dictionaries. I never understood him.

Why pick up a dictionary if you have a human one sitting right in front of you?

But then I had not learned that depending on someone was wrong. You need to build your own fountain of knowledge yourself- you need to be independent. Not independent to the extent that you are living in a dark hole next to little mice the rest of your life- but independent enough that you can make the right choices, the best decisions for yourself.
