when i see your face
i feel explosions in my chest
like an accidental scientist's
epiphanistic experiment,
combining potions of my past
with all these new elements,
i become the overzealous expressionist
turned muted troubadour,
standing at the cusp of you,
longing to explore.
boring through these doors
you've locked, protecting your old heart,
one thing that i'm sure of;
we've been connected from the start.
all this talk of fear and ego, letting go;
i swear to god when you peel it all away
i see you glow.
and i want to bask in you
and bathe in who you are
and i want to lay beneath you
when you become that shooting star.
because i believe in what you love
and love what you believe
and i can only hope to be
the king of hearts upon your sleeve.
and i can only hope to leave you
feeling just the same
as my heart swells
when the phone displays your name
and the butterflies are real
more like dragons in my stomach
but i'm forced to keep composure
when i'd rather shout it from the summit.
so i compose this poetry
as a way to keep my sanity
and express to you
all the love that i feel, madly .
and if tragedy opens us
to a deeper sense of self,
then let our past be the path
enlightening our wealth.
because in you i see the light
that illuminates the magic,
piercing through these nights
and it's anything but tragic.
and i can finally see myself
up above all this mess
propelled by your amazing beauty
and these explosions in my chest
