CHAPTER 15

BACK TO TAILAH’S POV

I hadn’t been feeling so well since I had been taken home by Ty. When Leanne came over, I was hoping that wouldn’t show, but I guess it was a lot worse than I thought because when I next awoke, I was lying in a hospital bed.
There were annoying feelings all over, and I could feel the heartbeat reader placed on my thumb as it sent the signal to the machine, making an annoying beep….beep….beep…beep noise.
I pulled at the pinching feeling on the top of my hand, without ever opening my eyes. When I pulled it out, the feeling went away, and I could go back to sleep. When my eyes finally relaxed, an alarm went off. Yay! I thought. What now? I was too tired to open my eyes as the worried nurses rushed in.
“what’s wrong?” a worried nurse said in a hushed tone.
“I think she pulled something.” I felt a pair of light-touch hands check my blankets, searching for any sign of something being messed up.
“agh!” she exclaimed, still quietly “she ripped out her IV, must have had a nightmare.” I could feel her eyes scanning to see if really was asleep, but luckily, she had to fix the mess I made. “call in Glenda,” she ordered another nurse “she’ll be able to fix it.”
I heard a nurse rush out of the room, then return with another.
I felt a poking in my hand once again. I couldn’t take this! I hated not being able to know what people were doing! I acted like I was just waking up. After grunting and slightly stretching, I fluttered my eyes open hazily.
“oh dear.” She whispered when she saw the confusion in my eyes.
I looked in her little eyes with an annoyed fury. She saw how my looks easily out-did her, and lay back a little.
“you’re Tailah, I suppose.” Announced a doctor as he walked through the doorway.
If any doctor in the world would remind me of Dr. Carlisle Cullen, this would be him. He had blonde, wavy hair and the most stunning expression. Dang! I was used to being the best looking one in the room. He grinned at my expression, revealing a set of glistening white teeth.
I was a little choked up.
“yes,” I said weakly “that’s me.” He grinned even wider.
“good.” He walked so that he was right next to me. “I have a couple questions for you.”
Questions? What was this? Blind dating?
“shoot.”
“do you know what’s making you so sick?”
“if I did, would I be here?” the nurse looked up, and walked out the door.
“well, we think that you may have cancer.” Cancer? Me? Sure, I get sick sometimes. But not sick-sick!
“cancer?” I squeaked.
“yes. We’re not at all certain, but we’ve had a couple patients come in with similar symptoms, they have all had cancer.” I was about to protest when he raised a hand and continued. “it’s not positive.” He lowered his hand, allowing me to talk.
“I can’t have cancer. I don’t do cancery things! How do you get cancer?” I had a panic attack when, instead of answering my questions, he walked out of the room.
I saw him talking to a nurse, signaling towards me, and she ran off to tell another nurse.
I couldn’t believe this! Me? Cancer? How is that even possible? I had never imagined myself as sick. I was always the one who cheered up her sick friends. Now, who would cheer up me?
I heard the door open. Thinking it was the Doctor again, I turned away.
“I don’t want to hear it! Go away!” I sobbed. I heard a quiet voice I was not expecting.
“Tailah? OMG! Are you okay? I have no idea what’s going on, but the totally hot doctor told me you would have to tell me.” I turned to face her.
“he thinks I have cancer.” I whispered. I watched her face turn pale.
“cancer?”
“yeah.”
“but how-”
“I don’t know, he left and told some nurse something, and now she’s coming back.” Leanne turned around to look out the window and saw two nurses rushing in some big machinery.
“miss” motioned a nurse towards Leanne “you’ll have to move.” Leanne shot her a look when they weren’t watching, and I laughed.
“think this is funny, do we?” mocked the other nurse.
“no. do I have cancer?” they both glanced at each other.
“no.” my heart leaped.
“well, what is it then?”
“we’re doing a test right now.” Okay. I’m cool with that. Anything could be better than cancer. Right?
