Identity

Faces pass

They come and go,

Wandering the earth,

Completely unknown.

Similar grins,

On similar faces

Take me back

To familiar places.

But the faces fade

As time blows past, but

Still I exist,

Still I laugh.

Even though,

I know,

The faces are there.

mindless drones

filled with despair.

The Machine is out,

without a doubt.

I try to run,

I try to hide;

But deep down I know

It’s me they’ll find.

The faces will come,

Bearing down and around

And my independent self

Is stripped from me

As I become

One of the faces.

Days and years,

They’ll come and go

My face rots blank;

And no one knows.

I am just another face

And the story,

of the man I once was

Will unfortunately,

Never be read.
