In the Egyptian sun she dreamed away,

wishing today wasn’t her wedding day.

She didn’t love him or even know him-

It was prearranged and on a whim.

She married him and not by choice.

She wanted to say no but had no voice.

In this time, day and age you agreed.

You had no input on the life you’d lead.

Now a jewel filled crown sits on her head.

With all the power, she still wished for death.

His servants would paint her body with soot.

So he would know where another’s hands were put.

It wasn’t long before she began to wander.

He was a friend and of love she would pander.

Though as children they would only pretend,

now it was He who wished her husband’s end.

So, she snuck out of the palace that night.

Like a bird on the wind, kept in flight.

Her lover took her in his arms so tight.

She knew it was wrong, but it felt so right.

After their forbidden and steamy encounter,

she ran back to quickly replace the soot powder.

Just as she entered, she was quickly caught.

He was looking on from afar, he was distraught.

What could he do to keep her from dying?

The king would certainly kill him for trying.

He didn’t care as he swept through the gate.

To save his love was his only true fate.

When he entered he came upon an ugly scene.

She was dead, “Now how do like your Queen?”

He soon met the same dark fate of his lover.

That was okay with him, for he’d love no other.

If you look to the sky at midnight’s hour,

You can see their love’s true power.

Its what we like to call the milky way.

A river of love you can see even today.
