you were so beautiful to me then

as your batted your wings so feebly.

you seemed so harmless back then

so small and fragile and needy.

you convinced me i was strong

as i lifted you from your grave.

you stretched your legs so long

and you took me as your slave.

so long you fed off of my blood.

i became your savory savior.

strength left me like a flood.

realized i couldn't escape the danger.

when i finally couldn't uphold,

your latch broke off so abruptly.

your tiny body so bold,

you found a new host to take custody.

i don't know why i still loved you

as i traced fingers across your lesions.

i don't know why i excused you

as i lay so empty and eaten.
