I wrote this in my homebase for no reason. It was just about my one of a couple great awakenings to guitar. Knowing me I just decided to post it - you don't have to like it, but it's here, just FYI. ...

I lie, listening to the same song over and over. The song is "Can I Play With Madness" by Iron Maiden. Not only do I listen to Bruce Dickenson's high-pitched opratic voice (which I love oh so very much) ; but Adrian Smith's exciting, awesome skills on the axe. I couldn't imagine his fingers sliding up and down the frets.

It, (as Slash says) "hit me like a ton of f---ing bricks". It was one of my important great awakenings. Of course, like Slash had done back then, didn't blow any one off in this constant process of listening to this song for the millionth time. I just couldn't stop listening. After that, I realized one thing.

I've gotta practice.

I'm gonna be as good as Slash and Adrian Smith (By the way, he's a he) one day. I will, and nothing is going to stop me. Okay, I've got the confidence, now I need the guitar. My third step will actually be learning note names and whatnot. I don't mean to brag, but I'm pretty good with guitar tabs. That will almost help me. Actually, I learned an E Minor chord from the tabs for "Hard to Explain" by The Strokes.

January - 2009 - after the 7th...

I'm buying a guitar.

No, not now - Oh, I wish I were - but in January of next year.

It's December.

Well, I would really love my dream guitar: a Standard Gibson Les Paul with a Sunburst finish. I'm getting a compromise. A Midnight Black Fender Stratocaster. It's lighter, says my dad, and I do believe him. A Strat - not quite what I would like but they're almost as beautiful. I WANT IT NOW!

I've gotta have Patience, yeah, yeah, yeah...Until then, I can use my dad's Strat. Our band will have to wait. Step three, I've got to learn. My dad can teach me. Once I know it pretty well I'll be pretty darn good. My passion will help - almost.

So I'm going to eternally rock - until I get the skills.

I have a proposition to you - I'll give you some tips on learning guitar

STEP ZERO: Yes there's a step zero. Do you listen to rap, hip hop, pop, and so forth? Well, Ace, go back in time. WAIT, STOP AT THE 60's!!! You're right there. Y'know The Beatles? Good start, but then there's Cream, The Doors, etc. THEN the 70's...ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin...80's, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden (they're 70's too), AC/DC, blah blah blah. You know those kind of bands? GO TO ITUNES AND GET SOME OF THEIR MUSIC OR GO TO JANGO.COM 'CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA BE ROCKING OUT!!! Some bands now like The Strokes, Disturbed, Slipknot, Weezer, yada yada yada they're good, too. Pick up some rock n' roll - the guitar riffs and solos are key to getting guitar PASSION!!! Just try some, O.K.?

STEP ONE: Get an acoustic guitar: my dad says it's good to learn that first.

STEP TWO: Don't cheat there, Ace. Get some private lessons, or group lessons. Other choices would be to learn from a family member or someone close like a friend, friend's family, etc,. ...

STEP THREE: Have patience, my friend! Guitar may be hard and seem to take a jillion years to learn, but you'll get it soon. You'll be Pete Townshend in no time if you just...

STEP FOUR: PRACTICE!!! The only way to get good at guitar is to PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!

STEP FIVE: If you get really into it you can buy an electric guitar, from a Pawn Shop (it's cheaper) or a guitar store. Be sure it's not a cheesy guitar, they may work at first but you could be ripped off - those cheeseballs don't quite work the same as your dream guitar.

STEP SIX: Keep practicing, and stay patient. Ace, good're off to the Paradise City and you could form a band or somethin', a solo project, or just have guitar playing as a hobby. Either way, I'm sure you'll be good someday.

Buy good begginner or pro or intermediate from some of these brands of guitars:
Gibson, Fender, Epiphone, B.C. Rich, Line 6, Yamaha....I'd highly suggest the first three; you can look up some major brands to make sure the guitar you get is right for you! Sound and brand is key - and cost. If it's like 100$ & below it's probably a cheeseball. If it's not and you know it's not, PSSSH! Tell me where you got the deal!

Oh yeah....

Electric guitars cost a lot of money.
