Part 1

In today’s world, a single woman with standards often has an empty bed.  That’s pretty much been my life since I turned 30 a few years ago and decided to leave the casual sex days behind me.  Not to mention that I have two impressionable boys and I’m not about to have men going in and out of my apartment.  You would think by now that my sexual appetite would have decreased but that’s oddly not the case. I could call my ex but his sex game was never that good.  I could use toys but I usually end up mad.  I don’t like to be teased.  With that being said, Frasier is usually my late nite companion.  While watching the hilarious psychiatrist the other nite my phone started flashing.  I had an FB message from an old coworker!  We’ll call him “Terrance".  He was asking me the usual question:  How have I been?  Where am I living nowadays? Kids?  He said that he’s in my neck of the woods pretty often and that he’s gonna have to take me to dinner one nite.  It sounded nice and all but women hear all kinds of empty promises from men so I didn’t get too excited.  But I did say that if we went out once we would have to go out twice.  I would have to return the favor.  Then he tries to tell me that he had a crush on me back in the day.  Now I really didn’t believe that.  What kind of game was he trying to play?  He claims he was afraid to act on it but I wasn’t convinced.  I remember him having a girlfriend that I would imagine was the most popular girl in her high school.  So what would have stopped him from trying to get at me?!  He had to be lying. But I admit it was kind of flattering.  He goes on to tell me he has been engaged for the past 5 years but he is at a crossroads with the relationship.  They have a son and he wants it to work without a doubt but he’s getting tired of trying.  Apparently she isn’t giving him some of the things he needs, so he says.  I’ve been around long enough to know that there are 3 sides to every story.  His side, her side and the truth.  But I was still willing to lend an ear and give a little advice where needed.  I told him 5 years is surely something to fight for and that there isn’t much to choose from out here anymore. They don’t make women or men the way they use to.  We went on to talk a little more until I remembered that my day starts at 6:30 a.m. so I’d better say goodnite.  Before I logged off he told me that he really hopes I will have dinner with him.  I replied “Of course I will!”, still not totally believing that it would ever happen.  He then replied “that made my nite”.  Reading those words gave me a hint of butterflies but I had to quickly shush them away.  He’s engaged for God’s sake!  He’s off limits…or was he?
