A NOVEL LOOK AT WAR

We have been "at war" with the idea of war ever since humans became introspective about our motives and morals as a species.

We have built monuments and edifices to peace and the promulgation of peace and waxed lyrical about it in music and art. BUT..we are still at it; bombing and maiming and generally making no progress in trying to stop what appears to be some sort of insane death wish of human kind.

I have decied to take a different look at war by posing this question: What if war is what we do to SURVIVE as a species ?

Looking at war in that light some interesting ideas result.

In the animal world, to which we are card carying members..like it or not...one of the demands for survival is making sure that the genetic pool is varied enough to survive the onslaught of various illnesses.

In the wild kingdom of a pride of lions when a male lion is challenged and loses his place as the only provider of DNA to the lionesses is lost to the younger , stronger male from a different pride, three things happen to secure the survival of lions. First the victor kills off all the young cubs that the old defeated male has fathered. Then all the females come into estrus at the same time. Then the new pride leader mates with allthe females. From our view much of this seems cruel and blood thirsty, but if you have been paying attention to life all around you you see that Mother Nature is a very ruthless force with one goal in mind..SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST.

The social behaviour of those lions brought to my mind WAR. What happens during war? Outside invaders carrying their DNA decend on a populace. Many young are killed as well as the healthy viral males defending their villages. The women under these circumstances are usualy raped. As brutal as this all reads..and it IS brutal..it just may be necessary for humans to survive and that is why we find it so difficult to stop. The prime directive has been satisfied. The weak and the unfit die and the gene pool has gotten a shot of foreign DNA.

If we look at the concept of war we may in fact be losing a battle we can't afford to win.
