THE SOVENIER

I searched in the land

Of Pharaohs

From souk to souk

Wishing I had asked

The Sphinx to solve

The riddle of the

Perfect gift for you

More than a remembrance of

Isis, Ramses and pyramids

A remembrance of me

To last you a lifetime

I needed no Rosetta Stone

To understand that  our

Love was doomed as I used

The midnight blue

Of the evening Egyptian sky

To cover me with solace

Finally a cartouche worked in silver

Caught my eye:Your name

Expressed as hieroglyphics

Walking away with my purchase

The silver warming in my hand as

I sought to feel your essence

The silversmith calls after me

“That name means He Who Is Beloved”!

Standing still in the midst

Of the medina madness

The perfection of the

Moment overcomes me

With such force I say

Like a prayer to Ra

Ah yes, yes

of course!

of course!
