Imaginary friends tell me what I want to hear

It's just a shame they aren't really there

So many summer nights laughing and playing around

And I'm the only one that actually makes a sound

The other side of the seesaw doesn't come down

And I'm the only one on the playground wearing a frown

When I throw the ball, they don't throw it back

Sugar coated is what they say, the truth is what they lack

I'm too old to be talking to no one, the shadows on my wall

But it's better than sitting around waiting for someone who won't call

Because everyone is growing up or already grown

And they're gonna leave me here on my own

Imaginary friends stay with you when you cry

But they just can't look you in the eye

They see you at your worst, they see you at your best

They see you fall down, the bad grades on your test

But they can't help you back up, can't help you study

They can only smile and be your imaginary buddy

I guess for now they will have to do

Imaginary is better than being stuck with you
