CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME is a very common condition today. The symptoms can start with numbness and pain around the fingers, hands, and wrists. Sometimes just one hand can be effected in severe cases it can be in both hands too. The pain and numbness will be more severe at night and more tolerable during during the day.

Some of the treatments that physicians, physicians assistants, and nurses practioners that they can prescribe can be just resting the hand and stopping the repetitive motion for awhile. Giving anti-inflammorty medications can reduce the pain and swelling. Many patients use a wrist spling to take the pressure off the medial nerve. Other have also tried occupational therapy.

When no other of the treatments have been effective surgery will done. The surgeon goes in and releases the carpal tunnel ligament. It has been found that doing surgery can alleviate the disorder enormously and make the patient more comfortable. The recovery can last from four to six weeks.
