Carer come Activist

Suffer in Silence.

Some people assume activists are unemployed people who have nothing better to do when they attend demonstrations but to cause a nuisance. Not knowing the background of the individual its a perception that infuriates me to such a degree i can openly say 'get real i could do your job with my eyes closed' which i probably could having some intellect. So what makes me able to make such an assumption! For one, I'm a Carer ive been around and done numerous jobs that many people would simply turn there noses up at and ive studied numerous other skills in order to place myself in a position to do it myself rather than ask others. For the last 15yrs ive kept my hands in the burners doing what ive always preferred doing, that being supporting the neediest people and trying to make things better when others are finding things hard to cope with and find the system hard to understand. My family needed stability in employment and thats when my missus got a employment with long term prospects that even i knew would be far better in the long run for all. Its only the last 4yrs that ive took on the role of caring for her mother more permanently because Society didn't/couldn't  provide anything bar the basics. She is wheelchair bound and an MS sufferer. So why is the complexity of Home Carers overlooked by mainstream parties! Is it because what the eyes don't see the mind don't question, maybe not- maybe it's the fact carers actually save the economy more than £120 billion yr and if it became widely known what carers could do to the economy the general populous would be very worried, by this I mean carers alone would cripple the Health Service and Social Services in one single move, by going on STRIKE. What a scary thought, 6 million Carers Striking for our rights in a civil Society- it's unthinkable due to the burden, not on the NHS or Social Services but on the cared for individual(s)........ Making mistakes is how you learn some say but alas this would cause carers more harm to themselves thus allowing for the mainstream Political Party's to throw 'crumbs' of support but in reality the professionals are constrained by time, money, health and safety, best value and policy so carers will always Suffer in Silence.
