As I sat there, on top of the mountain,
waiting for the sunrise,
I remembered the hours before:
Tired, but
sleepless;
sober but
completely
sick.

Like a child
who doesn't want to go to school,
I didn't want to deal with
the fact
that in just a couple of hours
things would repeat themselves.
The sun would rise for the
billionth time;
Mindless multitudes
would muster their
strength
and climb out of bed;
The roads would roar,
the gears would grind,
the city would cry
under the weight of
an endless crowd...
people going to work
watching television
walking on sidewalks and
riding in cars
spending money
dying, every one of them
killing one another
vomiting on the sidewalks
dizzy and endless -

And I thought,
somewhere, this very second,
someone is happy,
and they don't even
know it.

The sun rose,
and the city awoke.
