The American Wasteland: the Briefing.

So let me give you a warning before I begin this. If you’re expecting a factual, sugar-coated, adult-composed essay, stop reading. You won’t find anything of the sort here. No, I’m giving you the truth. The dirty, rotten, slightly-depressing, slightly-biased truth of what I see becoming of America. And let’s just say, well, all of what you see in the media may not be true. What the Hollywood movies tell you, what you hear in the washed-up, overused music on the radio, the “American dream” crap, well, not all of it is true. Not all of it is realistic.

If you’re brave (or interested) enough to keep reading, I hope I’m not wasting your time. I don’t necessarily know what the purpose of all of this is, but I do know that other countries might not know about what goes on here.

I can promise you, though, I’m not one of those people who are always going to rant on how imperfect it is here, or how you shouldn’t appreciate being a citizen here. But I will tell you how I see it. Maybe someday this will open a few peoples’ eyes and inspire them to make a move to change things, I don’t know. That’s not my goal, to become famous off of this. I just want to get a couple opinions, and get my personal view out there, you know?

So I suppose you can consider my overall purpose of this as a conversation starter. Something to get you fired up about, something that will make you want to strike up a response, a debate. I know you’ll have an opinion on at least one of the topics, so share it. That’s what I want! I WANT to know what you think, I WANT you to get fired up enough to send a comment my way, I WANT you to make a difference in some way or another! I WANT you to have an opinion, and to be proud of it!

Now don’t let me crush your dreams, either. Yes, America can provide more freedom and opportunities than other countries. It’s a nice place, some of the time. Some of the people are kind, good-natured, and genial. But then, that’s only SOME of them.

Also, don’t think me a biased, close-minded person. I’m really not. If you think I’m wrong, if you disagree, if there’s anything you want me to know, feel free to say it. I’ll listen. I’ll take everything into consideration. I’m completely open to everyone’s thoughts, opinions, all of that. Don’t be afraid to say anything.

That being said, let me get started.

There are a few things wrong with what’s going on here, things that may have hit national, or even international news, and then some local oddities and problems. I’ll attempt to get to all of them over the course of this “series” or whatever this is.

As a briefing, this will somewhat preview a lot of the things I’ll be discussing. Here are a few of the topics, and believe me, a few of them are stuff that will probably get you riled up. And that, my friends, is great!

Here goes. Over the course of this, I’ll be discussing the rights of women, racism, bullying, music, spirituality, sexuality, L.G.B.T, abortion, politics, fashion, the media, economics, self-image, and international news.

If there’s anything else you feel I should know or put out as a discussion, feel free to introduce it. Please do, no matter what the topic is. And if it’s about something you don’t feel confident enough to comment about, just ask for my e-mail address, and I will make sure to get to you! Consider that my world-wide promise.

So please, if you read this and any others, comment. Say something; get your voice out there. This is one way you can guarantee that your voice will be heard. All I ask is that you keep your mind open, too. I’m not going to force my opinions on you, by any means. I’m not going to say you’re wrong if you don’t think the same thing I do. I won’t insult you or anything if you disagree with me. Especially since I’m asking you for your opinion, as that would be incredibly hypocritical.

Thank you so much for reading this. I’ll do my best to keep up with posting the other “chapters” or “essays” or whatever they ought to be called. Again, feel free to comment any time. I mean it! :)
