Silence is all around

Empty aches in my chest,

Reflecting dark shadows

upon the muddy ground.

Street lamps flicker

with disorienting ease.

As I walk away,

I'm joined by an icy winter breeze.

Slipping away was nothing new;

Making myself go back was what

Caused the pain.

Why return to that place

When there's everything to lose

But nothing to gain?

So here I stand, next to a busy road

All my dreams have been taken and sold.

Now is the time that I have to go,

I must take flight.

These are the regrets

That belong to midnight.
