Dead of winter

Covered in snow

Lacy black clothing

We smile because they don't know.

Multicolored hair

Spikes that pierce the sky

Contrast to the bleakness

But no one asks why.

Words like swords

With no courage at all

They try to break us

Yet we will not fall.

They call us emo

They call us freaks

Through these verbal lashings we rise

They are the ones who are weak.

Petty attempts

And insults in vain

We stay ourselves

So they can't inflict pain.

We have a secret

They do not know

Our inner strength is more than theirs

But we don't need it to show.

Little bullies who want to play

Using energy unfathomable

But they will never succeed

Because we are the untouchables.
