"David is joining from Chicago."

"Marilyn is joining from London."

"Sanjit is joining from Delhi."

So says the electronic greeting as dispersed members from around the world are brought together.

When everyone has joined:

"Pleasetake out your deck andturn to page 5."

I hear heavy breathing and a baby crying over the speakphone.

Someone is talking about their bonus and there is laughter.

I fiddle my pen and click onto the USAir Website looking for travel deals.

"We're here to talk about the TRP Project," the organizer says.

"It's going well, isn't it?"

Suck up.

Acronyms fly -ITD, MRP, and ERP.

I am now on Yahoo, Googling exercise equipment,

not having exercised in the last ten years.

"Corporate Hack, Corporate Hack,

are you there?"

I clear my throat and make some comment.

"Sounds good, keep us updated."

Will do.

The meeting drones on and I sit in my office and wonder

if it's really happening at all.
