Nevadora was waiting in the small river boat that Kayden and she had agreed to meet at. He had promised to be there, but he hadn't shown up yet. Nevadora began to worry a bit as the mintues passed by. It had been almost an hour past the time they were suppose to meet. She thought that he might have been caught, but she knew she was overreacting. Nevadora knew she had to relax, so she lit some candles and inicense. Lying back in the boat she remembered the moment she and Kayden had met at the party. From that day on her life would never be the same again.

She was sitting under the huge willow tree that grew in the middle of the front yard watching all of her father's friends laughing and talking amoungst each other. Mr.Capler, Mr.Raft, and even Mr.Greene, the three most unsocialiable men in town, were there. She rested her back agianst the tree and closed her, enjoying the sounds and smells that flowed around her. Nevadora could feel the rough bark of the tree scratching her back through the thin material of her white cotton dress, which oddly enough, felt good.

A soft crack came from behind her and made her jump a little. With her eyes still closed she asked, "Who's there?" There was no responce, but the sound of a man clearing his throat and of him sitting beside her. She turned her head in his direction and opened her eyes to see a very handsome young man. He had shoulder length black hair that was slicked back slightly and sort of teal colored eyes. His skin was as fair and as smooth as cream. She looked into his eyes and smiled. "You never answered my question." He laughed to hiimself and then said, "Kayden VonDray and you are Ms. Nevadora Hanley."

"Yes." Nevadora said a little awkwardly. "How do you know who I am?" KAyden was about to explain when Nevadora's father and an older gentleman walked up to them. Kayden stood up and offered her his hand for assistance. She gladly took it and then brushed off the blades of grass that were stuck to her dress. Her father introduced the man beside him as Mr. VanDray, he was Kayden's father, and apparently an old friend of her father's as well. "Ah Nevadora how you've grown so big and beautiful, you look just like your mother." Said Mr. VonDray with a smile. Nevadora was confused and said, "I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude, but I don't remember you." Her father and Kayden's laughed a little at what she said. She looked at her father confused and then he explain. "Nevi you wouldn't remember him that well because you were young when he and his son moved away." The understanding must have shown on her face because her father quite explaining and drove into a conversation with Mr. VonDray.

Once Nevadora was sure that her father wouldn't notice her missing she slipped out of their view and began walking towards the back of the house. There was a path that lead to the river where she would go when she wanted to be alone with thoughts or read one of her favorite books. The farther she walked she notice that it sounded like there was foot steps behind her. When she turned around to see who was following her she ran straight into a wall of muscles. "Oh I'm so sorry I was just trying to catch up to you. Are you okay?" Nevadora looked up and was met with Kayden's eyes staring back at her. She was a little embarrased, "Umm...yeah. Uh, I'm good." She got even more embarrased when she fumbled over her words. She could feel her face beginning to turn red, so she turn away quickly and started walking a bit faster. Kayden caught up with her again and fell into step beside her. They walked in silence for a while until Kayden started commenting on the weather and flowers. Nevadora responded to his comments, but her mind was else where. She was remembering how when she was younger her mother would bring her and her best friend to the river and let them play. She had the biggest crush on Kay. The way he would hide behind his long, shaggy black hair and blush whenever she would splash him. Kayden was her first chrush. Kayden...wait a second.

Nevadora stopped dead in her tracks and Kayden stopped a few steps infront of her. When he turned around there was a hint of a smile playing at the ede of his mouth. "Wait a second...you're Kay VonDray; you use to live here, we use to be friends and I use to like you. We played in this river all the time too." Nevadora stepped back and looked at Kayden. He had grown up so much since she last saw him. "I was wondering when you were going to figure it out." Kayden said with a huge grin planted on his face. Nevadora ran up to him and through her arms around his neck and hugged him. They sat in the river boat her father bought her for her seventeenth birthday and swapped stories. They spent all day lying in the boat together, talking. The sun began to set and the sky lit up like a sea of fire. Then, as if someone had blown out the flame it started to turn into a light indigo and then was swollowed by the black of night. The stars showed though the thin transparent clouds that drifted in the sky. Kayden helped Nevadora out of the boat and walked her back to her house.

Kay came over to her house every morning and they spent the whole day together. They would lay in the boat for hours upon hours talking about their lives and tell each other secrets. About six month had passed since Nevadora was reunited with her beloved friend Kayden. The connection they shared remained and even grew stronger until they were in love. She was so glad her father didn't mind her being out so late with him. Usually young ladies like herself weren't aloud out after dusk with a boy. Although some days Kayden would cut their meetings short because of business of his fathers he had to attend to or he wouldn't feel well. Nevadora never thought much of it until one night.

"I'm glad I came back to the farm with my dad. I never realized how much I missed this place until I was back here." He said while looking around at the trees that lined the river bank. There was a meadow beyound the thin blockade of trees and when the slightest breeze blew from it's direction they could smell all the wildflowers and lavender that grew there. The sun began to set once again on yet another perfect day and everything was the same as it always was. Nevadora was lying in Kay's arms and he was telling her about life in the city. Then all of a sudden Kayden stopped talking and fumbled in his vest for his pocket watch. "What's wrong Kayden?" Nevadora asked. Kayden quickly moved away from her and began to look at the trees on the other bank and sky frantically. She didn't know what caused his strange behavior all of a sudden. He didn't answer her and she started to worry. "I will see you tomorrow Nevi. I must go now." After he spoke those words he jumped from the boat into the water and began to swim to the other side. Once he reached the bank he climbed onto the shore and disappeared into the trees. On her way home Nevadora wondered why Kayden had left so abruptly. She couldn't understand his reason for running away from her like he did. She pushed all those thoughts out of he mind and up at the night sky to see thousands of twinkling star and peeking out from behind a couple thin clouds, a full moon.

When she arrived home she went upstairs and readied for bed. She was just about to give into sleep when she heard gun shots in the distance. Nevadora got out of bed and went to her window. As she was leaned out her window she heard the howl of a wolf and it sounded close. Nevadora was about to close the window when she saw two glowing blue eyes staring at her. She wasn't afraid of this creature, but intrigued and wanted to get closer to it. The eyes began to come foward out of the shadows and it's figure was illuminated by the moonlight. The wolf was bigger than a noraml wold, but it was no bigger than a small bar. Nevadora couldn't take her eyes off him. She had the strangest feeling that she had somehow seen him before, not as a wolf, but human. Kayden...She knew it was him. The way he stared into her eyes, it was him. The wolf broke their stare first and cocked his ear to the south and turned his head in that direction. All of a sudden Nevadora heard a gun shot in the distance. The wolf looked at her one last time before it ran for the forest behind her house. Nevadora heard voices and a few more gun shots. She ran down the stairs and out the front door to the barn that was right next to her house.

She opened the barn doors and jumped on her horse Vlad then raced off into the woods. Nevadora headed into the forest, not really sure which where or in which directions she should go. She spent all night riding all over the forest crying out Kayden's name and she finally gave up when she could no longer ride. She was somewhere deep in the woods when she stumbled off Vlad and managed to tie him to a tree. Sitting on a log Nevadora looked around and started calling out, "Kayden! Kayden, where are you? I know you're here!" Nevadora sat in silence for a while waiting for a response, but she never heard one. She sat on the log waiting for him to show himself  but finally gave into the all consuming darkness.

Nevadora woke when the sun that was creeping in through the trees finally hit her face and warming it. When she stood up from where she was lying on the ground she felt as if someone was watching her. Turning around she found Kayden stroking Vlad's nose and whispering to him softly. Nevadora ran over to Kayden when his eyes left Vlad and landed on her. She threw her arms around him and said, "Kayden, I was so scared. I thought those men had shot you. Why didn't you answer me when I called for you?" Tears began streaming down her face. Kayden hugged her and then gently pushed her away so he could pace. "The reason I didn't answer you last night was because I couldn't...I couldn't change back until morning. I didn't want you to see me like that again." He said while still pacing and every so often taking a glimpse at her."Kayden you don't have to hide who you are from me." She took a step closer. "How did you even know it was me?" He asked while taking a small step back. Nevadora looked at his feet move and was hurt. "It was your eyes and the way you looked at me. No one else can make me feel the way you do." Kayden stopped pacing and took a couple steps closer to her, but then stopped himself. "Nevi how are you not scared of me? I turn into a wolf when the moon is full and here you are, not afraid." She thought about it for a second and knew why she wasn't afraid. She loved him, no matter what.

They spent all morning and most of the evening talking about Kayden's change and how painful it was in the begnning. Now after he'd shifted so many time it just came natural and he really enjoyed it, but it also scared him. He told Nevadora how he couldn't control some of his actions and how he was afraid that he might hurt someone. She felt bad for him and thought about how scary it would be not being able to control yourself. Then she thought of an idea. "Kayden I have an idea, but I'm not sure if you'll go along with it." He nodded for her to go on. "Well I was thinking..what if we run away together. We could leave this place and go some where far away with no one around for miles." Nevadora's words started spilling out and her voice rose a little with excitement. "Nevadora, I'm not sure. Would you really leave your family just to be with me?" She sat there for a moment thinking it over. She was only leaving her father and they never really spoke to one other unless they were in public, so no one would really miss her. "Yes, I would leave everyone to be with you."They planned everything out from going home to grab what they needed to where they would meet. Kayden gave Nevadora the most gentle kiss she had ever recieved and then helped her onto Vlad. She rode home as fast has she could and then grabbed her bags and began to pack. When she was done she carried her things all the way to the boat.

She must have fallen asleep becuase she awoke in the boat as the sun was beginning to set. Then a sound she would never forget broke the silence. A gun shot. She ran up the river bank and just ten feet away from here was Kayden's body. He laid face down in the grass with bullet hole in his back. She ran to him with tears running down her face and turned his body over. She looked at his face and into his eyes, but there was no life left in them. Craddling his head she looked up at the four me that were standing there watching her. They were holding the guns that killed Kayden. Nevadora screamed at them and cursed them and their children. How could they just kill someone like that and not feel any remorse. The men ended up leaving Nevadora alone in the woods, but went to tell her father what had happened.  Once he finally got her to leave him so the doctors could take Kayden's body away he couldn't get her to do anything. She wouldn't eat or sleep or even talk, all she did was stay in her room looking out the window. When the day came for Kayden to be buried Nevadora never left his grave. She sat at his grave stone, but never once did she cry. She passed away a couple of weeks later and was buried next to Kayden. When she was at peace Kayden and Nevadora were united and finally together at last.
