As usual the hallways were packed wall to wall between classes. People dropping book, kids with spit wads students with pencils in their ears, girls popping gum. You could say it’s your typical high school. From the crowd a friend emerged. “Hi, Nate” I said. Nate carried on about how nice it was out side and that it would be a waste to be inside on a day like this. It didn’t take long before I caught on to his plan.
Lets see what’s Brian is up to I shall see if he would like to join us on our own little field trip. My good old friend Brian is always up for an adventure. I suggested that we leave third period. That wouldn’t be anything new to me, besides who likes Algebra anyway?
Soon I was flying down the freeway with two of my best friends, with no regards for rules, speed limits or school. Bumping the tunes in Nate’s little red mustang, it seemed the volume couldn’t get loud enough for us. We wanted everyone to hear us coming. Born to be wild was our motto. Let me tell you, we turned some heads. Some happy to see us, others not so happy to see or hear us.
We had to drive through a couple of creeks to get Red Cliffs. It took us a while to find a parking spot. We stayed there until our attention spans ran out. We all jumped in the car, with Nate at the helm. This guy has a lead foot, pedal to the metal. The car was still accelerating when Nate announced he was going to hit the last river on the way out at full speed. That sounds fun, that’s where the road goes any way. Tires screeched around the corners as the little red mustang bombed down the hill towards the creek. To our surprise, just on the other side of the creek was a nice new Honda Accord with all 4 doors open and two sets of couple standing by the water. “I don’t care who’s there, we are blasting through the creek” Nate said.
My stomach went to the top of my throat. I held my hand out the window to feel the water pressure. All three of our voices rose to a level louder than the music, screaming with laughter. The car bottomed out when we impacted the creek.A huge wall of white water shot up in all directions. Water pelted my hand with such force that it knock my arm clear back. Once we reached the other side, the wall of water we sent flying into the air doused the two couples and their new car. Laughter filled our car. A quick look back to see how the couple reacted, notified me that they were really upset with the choice we made to hit the creek. The two sets of couple scrabbled to their car in a flash to pursue us.
We drove to get away from the drenched couples but it seem impossible. Oh no here comes a stop sign. The car pulled up beside us, a rather large dude jumped out with his hyped up friend. I won’t repeat the words being used. They scared us; Nate floored the pedal after that encounter. We hoped since they had to hop back into their car that it would give us some time to get way. Then I thought that we should put our heads together and come up with a way out of this. I remember thinking what would James Bond do. The only thing that came to mind was to flip around and wave at them as they passed us on the road. So we waited for a chance to turn around where they couldn’t see us. We could see them coming on the opposite side of the road. The closer they got the more their mouths dropped open. Looking at the traffic they were in, there would be now way they could flip around to pursue us. We have gotten away.
We wiped the sweat off our brows, and in unison said, “That was a close call”. Remind me to never do that again and we headed home. We had enough adventure in our life for one day.
