Shadows in the Meadow

I arose from my bed and felt a daze come over me, a force that shot me immediately in an erect position, and sent me in a trance. Struggling to break free I batted at my arms, and clawed at my wrists. Whatever it was awaited my arrival in the meadow. I knew I couldn’t struggle, I couldn’t even speak. I screamed but could only watch my own self, like a reflection, scream out silence. I left my room; and slowly, step-by-step, made my way down the long narrow hallway. My feet made struggled steps on the carpet. I willed myself out of its invisible grip, but only made the pain more unbearable. Voices whispered twisted lullabies in my ears, willing me to step faster.

When I got to the stairs, I grabbed to railing, to slow down my own steps. Nevertheless, my feet wouldn’t stop walking. And in a quick shock of paralyzing pain I fell forwards down my wooden staircase. Tasting my own blood as it trickled down my forehead and made its way to my mouth.

But the force continued to pull me, and I was surged to my feet. Turning the knob of the front door and stepping out onto my front porch. There were no houses, just a small dirt road, and a meadow across from my house.

I looked closer and saw the old oak tree sitting on top of the hill, and beside that tree was a figure. Its eyes glazed a deep red in the night, and its features showed it was not human. Attempting another scream, I tore at my hair in agonizing torment. The only thing I could hear was its laugh, and the same song playing over...and...over. Desperately I attempted to plug my ears, but my arms were suddenly locked at my side.

The creature’s teeth shun with a bright luminescence in the night as a crooked smile emerged on its face. That only made me try to scream louder, but nothing came out.

When I was only a few feet away my feet came to a stop and I was locked into position. Desperately I struggled to move from the spot, but it was as if my feet were glued to the ground, and the creature came closer. Limping like a twisted mess of burned flesh as if emerged from the darkness that masked it in a looming cage.

As it came to a stop just a step away, small shadow creatures emerged from the ground all around me and awaited further response from the creature. Laughing it reached out a twisted, skinless hand and pulled on the thin strap of my nightgown. Twisting my long blond hair around its long boney fingers.

Turning my head I felt a sharp pain surge through my body, as I realised it had tore off the gown and left me in my undergarments. “Stop it!” I screamed, but still only silence was heard.

I covered my chest with my arms, and I slapped it across the face. Realising I could now move I ran across the field, desperately struggling to escape the shadows that now had me clasped by the arms with their almost transparent hands.

The creature approached me and returned my slap with a scratch across my face. I felt a stinging sensation run through my cheek as blood stained the silk of my bra. Then it backed up slightly, opened its mouth, and revealed rotting teeth. “Fool!” It hissed, giving me another scratch on my stomach. “You cannot escape me!”

I felt the grip of the shadow creatures tighten, and it slowly laid a kiss upon my neck. Feeling an odd churning in my gut, my entire body strained. And cried as it slowly made its way to my chest.

I wanted it to stop, but it wouldn’t stop. Moreover, I certainly couldn’t let it do this to me. I cried even more as it pinned me onto the ground and continuously kissed my chest then stomach, angrily I swung my hand and scratched it across the face.

I could hear the shadow creatures hiss in response to my attitude and the creature pulled out a knife and dug it into my gut. I screamed in pain and realised I made a big mistake. It laughed as I screamed, and bit the side of my neck viciously, mind-numbing pain filled my entire body as it stopped and sliced both of my wrists.

“Stop it! Leave me alone!” I screamed, but it just sliced my wrist again in response. I watched as it pointed at a newly dug hole and nudged me to it. I stood up and found myself being pulled to it. And with a surge of pain, it through me into the eerie darkness.

I panicked, but nothing could save me now. And out of the corner of my eye. Watched as it began filling the area around me with dirt.

“No!” I screamed, but was choked by a sudden blast of fallen dirt. After about ten minutes I found myself suffocating, pushing away dirt witch soon tumbled back in my face. Suffocation isn’t my ideal death, but I guess I have not much choice...
