Love is an Unending War

Nights like this

I lie awake, alone

Wondering if I'm wounded and ignored

Or merely

An unburried corpse

On this deserted battlefield

That was once a fortified love nest.

Killing me would be kinder

Than leaving me to live reminded

Of what we once shared as allies

Against an enemy onslaught.

Now I'm left to die untreated

As your campaign advances

On to fresh new territory

With stronger alliances

All power without defiance.

Nights like this

Awake, alone

I wonder if I'm still dying

Or begun to decompose.
