Memoirs of My Childhood
I was just sitting here reminiscing
About the days when I had to fight for my happiness
Sitting in front of the television
Singing every cartoon’s theme song with precision
Praying that  just once he’d abstain
From beating down on her with his fist

Yes those were the days
When we’d play hide-n-seek
Late into the summer night
Until we couldn't’t stand another mosquito bite
Just to escape the drunken adults stupidities

And who could forget the time we replaced
His brandy with Lipton iced tea?
We may have thought it was funny, but he didn't’t agree
Out the window that night went the TV

But those days are long behind me
Now I try and remember only the happy things
Like playing with the neighborhood children down at the creek
Standing in the cold water murky and bleak
We’d see who could collect the most
Crawdads, and then the winner would boast
While we sat and ate our find

And I can’t forget those far fetched dreams
Like dancing or acting on the big screen
Or becoming a  mighty morphin’ power ranger
To keep my town safe from harm and danger

Yes, who could forget  that trip to California
Or the time we drove down to Mexico
Or the time when we went to Elitches
Or the time the champagne glass granted me a trip to get stitches?

Those were the days when my dreams felt real
And the days when no high school could steal
Or alter those dreams in any way
Those were the days when the letters GPA
Meant absolutely nothing

Yep those were the days
When no dream seemed too far fetched
And no one was a better princess
Those were the days when I was the stress
And not the unfortunate stressed

Those were the days.....memoirs of me!
