This is a letter from a Soldier to his wife and unborn child. It is delivered to them after he is presumed dead. I was provoked to write this by a story on The Antiques RoadShow!

My Darling,

If you are reading this then I am so sorry. I'm sorry for having left you. I'm sorry for not being there for you when you found out you were pregnant.

You see the thing is Darling, I am in the army. I'm so sorry for not telling you but it was something I had to do. I had to make the world a better place for our child. Even though I will never know her, I know she will have your eyes and my chin. I love you Darling. I'm sorry this letter must come to you under such sad circumstances.

If you're reading this then chances are I am dead. I didn't mean to die and hopefully you will never have to read this. But if you are I am sure you must be crying so here is a memory to make you smile...The day we first met, 1936, a school dance. You and me danced the night away untill they kicked us out. I drove you home and kissed your cheek and you blushed as light as a rose.

I am sorry for leaving you..

All my love,

Dear Madam,

This letter was in your husbands log book. We presume it was meant for you.

We are sorry to inform you that your husband is lost in action and presumed dead.

Best wishes,
