Growing old

Many times a child may wish

for a woman's power,

for an elixir of age

to bring lines upon a wizened face.

For beauty's sake maybe?

Or maybe just for how it feels,

with knowledge slipping

from your lips,

no confusion, to understand.

To understand the endless woes

or maybe not she knows?

But how many times does a woman hope

for a youthful fountain,

for endless bliss,

for hapless innocence.

Forever at the mercy of another's hand,

not to understand the endless toils

one day you'll have to face.

Many times may they wonder

why once, in innocence, they wished

to leave the safety of their homes

for work and toil and freedom?
