As I look around the room, I see five tough greasers,

Greasers who forgot how to cry,

Greasers who never thought of saying goodbye,

Greasers who fought to see if they could get respect,

Greasers who see how many switchblades they can collect,

Greasers who lost two people in one night,

People who were never justified as right,

I can hear one of them say,

Golden is the best way to stay,

I can also see one of them fall,

Crumble under the streetlight; fuzz didn’t think nothing of it at all,

Both died; one a hero and one a hood,

Of course, people still thought both were no good,

If I had used my head and stayed home,

Those two would be right where they belong,

With us greasers, including me to be exact,

We could never replace them even if they did lack,

As I look around the room again, I don’t see five tough greasers,

Instead I see guys who have shed hidden tears,

Guys who would kill and die just so they wouldn’t have to say goodbye,

Guys who have fought and won but got no respect,

Guys who are tired of feeling all the reject,

Guys who have felt more hurt and pain,

Then all the people you could name,

Guys who lost two people in one night,

People who have left a deep mark,

On each and every one of our hearts.

Hidden Tears
