Playing With Death – Part 2
A thousand suns had come and gone, new peoples rose and fell
Death mused over knights, forlorn, then sent the troops to hell
And whilst I cursed at what I’d seen, the dragons swooping form
I prayed my men died not in vain, a new age would be born.
Death glanced up with mouthless grin and said ‘my dearest boy’
‘It seems your battle’s fought in vain, your land’s a useless toy’
‘You think you’ve gained the upper hand? I said under my breath
‘My mistress Chance will have her say, together we’ll cheat death’
I sought my god and said a prayer, then forced the spinner round
The slightest breeze against my cheek, said Chance still claimed this ground .
The spinner slowed as even time, found time to stop its flow
And gaze upon new knowledge found, at fate now dragged in tow.
From this point on the game’s pace changed, I fought with all my might
The Reaper on receivers end - a lost and worthless plight.
A thousand miles I once had lost, I pillaged, conquered, claimed.
With no thought of the consequence that lay outside the game
All time had stopped outside my world, the game had claimed my life
Reapers grin lost in my sins, a grand tug of war of strife
Until he spoke with voice of stone and said, ‘how long my boy?’
‘can you ignore the cries of pain, of souls you dare destroy?
Finally harsh reality crashed as a wave unformed
Limbos mist had lifted, exposing souls that screamed and mourned
Familiar faces locked in pain, from lands I fought to claim
The great deed I’d done was steal their son’s, chance to play deaths game.
