This is a poem I wrote in creative writing class. This was an attempt to cause the reader to feel sadness and hopelessness, while also having a feeling of content with the poem. I tried to show the intensity of a battle through this sonnet.

An anthem is played as they march towards each other bringing inspiration to some, while others hear trouble. Countless trumpets boom and dramatic drums bellow. Every soldier steps forward slowly and synchronized. The front few men knowingly walking to their demise. The godless ground haunting with the promise of sorrow. Inevitably they know losing will cause homes to crumble. The music stops as they look in the eyes of their brothers.

There is a calmness felt but is broken fast, as arrows pierce the sky racing not to land last. A blood curdling shout is yelled out in pride and the two armies start running aiming to collide. A few days later and the land is still. Nothing is left with life, so nothing is left to kill.
