i can’t breathe
like a dead bird’s flightless body
it’s undermined defenses
buried in the shallow grave of loving lies.

they deceive me and I believe
i don’t want to know the truth
about them
about myself
denial is death
truth is hope

hope is growing
like vines on an old bridge
an illusion
hiding the decaying support
the bridge
a final betrayal

my last denial
