I sit in a chair with my back rigid and my expression etched with annoyance.  She paces back and forth, her heels clicking against the marble floor as she does. Every click pushing me closer and closer to the brink of insanity. I furrow my brows at my sister and roll my eyes as she repeats herself for the millionth time. "When choosing a mate to rule alongside you, you must always remember to study him at a distance first. Mortals may seem loving and kind or even brave at first, but they can quickly prove you wrong and turn on you. They show there true colors when they think they are alone , so be stealthy and remain silent when studying your potential mate  .You must also remember that choosing a mate is not about feelings, it is a strategic move. Your chosen mate will rule alongside you, he will be the support you need when your subjects are out of line. So choose very wisely. “She says with a stern tone eyeing me as if I am an unruly child. I huff sliding down further into my chair. "Why can’t I love him?" I question her quizzically. She stops pacing and narrows her eyes on me. "Because love is blinding and love will get you killed." she reminds me. I groan at her feeling frustrated. Why couldn’t she think the way that I did. No matter how hard I try she is always going one direction and I am always heading in another, we are never on the same page. "Love will make me happy.” I say to her knowing oh to well how she will react. “You don’t need to be happy to rule Levank, nor do you need to be content. All that matters is that you keep those vicious monsters on the other side of the mountain out of our boundaries. As long as our people are safe and violence is avoided with our sister territories, that is all that matters. Strategy over love “she says. I bit my lip boiling with anger. She never wanted to listen to my opinions. Even if she was wrong, her pride kept her from doing that.  "You chose love over strategy, you chose Daniel." I mutter under my breath not thinking it through. Truedessa freezes in her steps and her expression turns placid. She takes two long strides towards me extends her hand and slaps me so hard that I bite my lip. The taste of iron fills my mouth. "Don’t you ever allow that name to slip from your lips again." she growls venomously.  I rub my face utterly stunned. "Dessa lm ..." I began to say. She shots me a deadly glare, one that causes my throat to dry up. I open my mouth to apologize but she screams. "Get out!" I don’t move at first tears wielding up in my eyes from the brute force of her slap. "I said get out!!!"  She roars at me, her eyes bulging like a mad mans would.  I leap from my chair running to the door so fast that not even Daniel himself would have been able to catch up with me , if he were still here. As i close the door behind me she starts to sob and guilt takes hold of me.
Queen, I am to become queen. If I had grown up like a human in the realm of the living the word queen would probably be daunting to me. But I am not human and I did not grow up in the land of concrete. What mortals find important I do not. Age is one of those things, but if someone were to question me about my age I would tell them I am 17 because that is how old I look. In reality I am actually only a year old. I was not born but merely created. My sister Trudessa the only fae that shares my bloodline, has spent the last 6 months preparing me for my thrown. She has filled my head with so much information about our realm and the mortal’s realm that my head should have exploded by now. But luckily for me fae are able to obtain massive amounts of information. When my sister told me the list of obligations and duties that I would have to fulfill, I not once questioned her . Until Love came into play, now that my transformation is only a week away i suddenly find myself questioning my ablites to lead my kind. I sit perched on the highest branch of my favorite oak tree, my eyes drinking in my surroundings. It is my goal to soak in every aspect of my realm before I have to travel to the mortals realm where i will  undergo my full transformation into a fae and find a mate . I am so lost in my thoughts that I don’t hear Onyx scream my name from bellow. "Leona !" She shrills impatiently. I shake my head bringing myself out of my thoughts and look down at her. "Yes. " I finally say. "Come down from there and join us is in the fairy circle." She says with a radiant smile. I shake my head at her leaning back against the bark of the tree. "Are you not ready to go just yet." Kate says from beside me . I jump up startled. "Good gosh Kate ! you nearly scared right out of the tree. " I scream at her . An enormous smile tugs at her lips and she laughs at me . "And then Onyx would have her way wouldn’t she. " She says teasing me, poking me in the side. i relax a bit looking up through the branches at Skocean the ocean in the sky. A sun hovers just below it , its radiant rays shinning down through the tree tops. "What is the Land of the living like?" I ask Kate curiously. "The what ?" she questions. "The mortal realm, what is like?" i ask her again. She takes a moment to think about my question and shifts to the side a bit as if my question has made her uncomfortable. "It is beautiful and ugly all at the same time." she answers racking her fingers through her long silky Blonde hair. "Explain." I tell her inching closer. "There are some parts of it that are filled with beauty, but pollution and violence make it ugly. " she takes a breath thinking more. "It can be a wonderful place like here, but Fae and mystical creatures are just myths to them. And they kill everything they touch.  There’s no sense of wonder, no magic just facts and fiction. “She admits with a frown. I sigh feeling thirty times more nervous about leaving the Fairy realm. "Why did you choose to leave your mortal life behind?" i ask her attentively. "I’ve dreams about mermaids and fairies my entire life, it has always been a subject that interested me. But I never felt at home there, I always felt like something was missing, like i was meant for a greater purpose. “She says cheerfully. “Don’t you have a family?" I say hesitantly. "No my mother passed away when I was a child and I never met my father. I wouldn’t consider him family even if I had met him. The only person I consider family is Jeff." she says studying my face as the name slips from her lips. "Jeff?" my ears perk up when i hear her say the name. “Who is Jeff?" I whisper trying to keep my voice low so that the three Fairies frolicking down below us don’t hear our conversation. Her cheeks grow red at the sound of his name. "Jeff is my best friend, we have been friends since I was five." She says looking up at the sun. I smile at her seeing the twinkle in her eyes. "Do you love this Jeff?" I tease her. She nods her head and says. “With all my heart.”  I close my eyes wondering how it would feel to love someone. "Is he the one you’re going to choose to be your mate?” I say opening my eyes to look at her. "What! No!" Her squalls hitting me playfully. "Choosing a mate you love is against the rules remember?" she says frowning. I smile at her leaning to whisper into her ear. "Some rules are made to be broken and that rule is one I intend to brake."
Just as I am about to about to ask her what Jeff is like Dessa appears in the meadow where my friends sing and dance in a fairy circle. Knowing that is my cue Kate and I climb out of the tree and make our way towards her. She carries a golden box with bright blue flowers painted around the top of it.
