Space Dandy is a comedy anime, set in space. Let me begin by saying, there is no plot to this anime. If plot is what you are looking for, you won't find it here. On the other hand, it means the episodes don't have a set flow. Whatever happens in one episode has no effect on the next. The story is focused on our main character Dandy, an alien hunter. The premise is Dandy looks for rare and unregistered aliens, captures them, and brings them to be registered. Dandy is the captain of the Aloha Oe, which isn't much to brag about, because frankly, it's a comedic piece of crap. QT is an outdated robot, who is essentially Dandy's maid. He scans for rare aliens, while Dandy “captures” them. One of the “rare” aliens QT identified was Mymyamo, which when captured it was revealed he was an ordinary alien from the Planet Betelgeuse. He officially becomes a crew member of the Aloha Oe and is nicknamed Meow by Dandy. The only reason Dandy goes after aliens is because of his favorite place to visit, Boobies (which is the space version of Hooter's). He is constantly on and on about the next visit. Alien hunting is the simplest way to make money, at least in his eyes. The catch is, he is awful at it. In the series, the only times he actually captures rare aliens was by sheer luck, or accidentally. Each episode has it's own mini story, as there are no real recurring plot points or characters, with the exception of Dandy being chased by the Gogul Empire. Don't worry, the ones doing the chasing suck at their job too. It isn't ever explained why he's being chased, I'll just assume it's over something he's done (probably something stupid). I'll admit it. I didn't think I would like this at all, but after a few episodes, the amount of trouble Dandy and his crew stumbled into made it humorous. I wanted to keep watching to see how they managed to escape the latest situation, or if they even did (after watching a few, you will notice in some cases, they don't escape anything). It didn't hurt that I enjoyed hearing the opening each time, and adored the art style. I would definitely recommend this, especially if you need a change of pace. There are only 13 episodes, and I believe it to be well worth your time. There will be a season two, and you can expect me to view it as soon as it premiers.
