Chapter 1

I sat on the porch, swinging softly on the porch swing. My mom, my little sister Kari, and I just moved out of our crappy apartment. We'd been there for a year, after my dad left my mom for a slutty eighteen year old, only two years older than me now. Kari and I had been sitting out here all morning, watching the sun rise and drinking hot cocoa. There was freshly fallen snow on the ground thar was the purest color white. Same color as my skin, almost. I'd always been told I was pretty. Shoulder length dark brown hair, blue eyes that were bright like the sky, according to my ex. I never believed I was as pretty as everyone said, but I went along with it. Kari was almost the same, just not as pale. I should check on her soon, she'd been napping for about an hour now. Mom was gone for work, so it was up to me. I waited just a little longer, enjoying the view of my new front yard. It was only about a week before Christmas Eve, a night Kari and I had been looking forward to all year. Ever since we knew we'd be spending it here, in this nice house. This house with it's three bedrooms, a porch, a pool. Everything we'd ever wanted. Only one more thing could make me happier right now. Taking my drivers test. I was supposed to take it this November, right after my birthday, but it was too cold. I took another sip of cocoa, looking up at the sky. It was starting to snow, tiny flakes coming down from the bright blue sky. It looked beautiful and infinite. I was suprised with how warm I was outside. Sure, I was wearing an oversized sweater, leggings, and some Uggs, but it was only like twenty degrees out. But, the cocoa helped. Kari and I had made it this morning. Speaking of Kari, it was probably time to check on her. I grabbed my book and cocoa mug and stood up. I walked inside, closing the door behind me. I put my mug in the sink before jogging upstairs. I threw my book into my room before walking over to Kari's room. I walked in and sat beside her, patting her head. She looked so adorable, laying there, so innocent. She was only nine years, too young to know about dad. She just thought he left, that he'd be back. I felt something rub against my leg and I jumped. I looked down and it was my kitten, Mimzy. I grabbed Mimzy and left, closing the door behind me. I walked into my room, bringing Mimzy with me. She was the cutest grey kitten ever. I put her on my bed and grabbed my book. I layed back and let myself get lost in the plot of  the book in my hand.

Chapter 2

I woke up later that night, my book on my face. I pushed it aside and pet Mimzy, who was still beside me. I walked into Kari's room, where I expected her to be playing. She was gone. I crept downstairs, wondering where she could be. I wandered into the Living Room. The TV was on, but Kari wasn't there. "Kari?" I called out, wondering where she could be. I called her name a few more times before the power went out. I screamed and jumped. I groped around, trying to find the kitchen. My eyes adjusted and I found our knife drawer. I opened it. It was empty. I started to cry calling for Kari one more time. I heard laughter, coming from the basement. "Kari!!??" I screamed. I just heard more laughing. I found my way over to the basement door. I made my way down the creaky stairs, almost tripping on the last step. "Kari?" I said, scared of what might be here. Something brushed my leg and I screamed. All the sudden, someone came behind me and covered my mouth. I screamed, but it came out all muffled. I was getting dizzy and something smelled weird. Before I passed out, I heard a scream.

Chapter 3

When I awoke, a bright white light turned on. I saw Kari, chained to a chair, with a gag in her mouth. Her cheeks had dried tears all over them. She was asleep or passed out. Then, I saw the blood. There was blood running down her nose and down her neck. She was drugged. Someone slit her throat. I started screaming, crying. "KARI, NOOOO!!!!" I screamed, gasping and crying. "Shut the hell up." A man said as he walked into the room. He was dressed all in black, with a black ski mask over his face. I gasped and cried harder. What was happening?! All the sudden, he ran at me and kicked me in the gut. I leaned over and threw up. I started coughing and gaging. He laughed and stuck my face into my vomit. I coughed harder, the smell of my vomit making me want to vomit again. He pulled me up and I cried. "Shut the fuck up!" He yelled. He pulled off his mask and I saw who it was. "Dad?" I asked, feeling dizzy. He nodded, grinning. Then, he pulled out a knife and turned the lights off. A minute later, he whispered in my ear, "Now it's your turn Jessa." before pulling the knife across my neck and then through it. I tried to breath, but I couldn't. The last thing I heard, was his laugh.
