Her hair must be perfect
Today of all days
Equipped with a straightner—
The look is complete

Her face must be perfect
Beginning with brows
Five minutes, a mirror
And she's feeling fab

Lost in the piano
She closes her eyes
The music engulfing her
Mind and her soul

Leaving the bench
Something catches her eye
A sketchbook and pencils
Now she is found

A textbook and paper
Ten problems to go
She ponders, she wonders
Teeth clutching her pencil

Frustrated she switches
Not math, now it's English
A textbook replaced
By a one-hundred page play

Here she sits
Head cocked to the side
Eyes gazing away
Searching for words

She is not bothered
By self-appearance
By artistic talent
Or the work that’s expected

No she is focused
On living this moment
To savor the present
Her fingers keep typing
