Dear Nicholas,
I fear that I am going mad. I have not seen you for over a month now and the pain is crippling me, it is residing within every single bone in my body, shattering me from the inside out, I cannot sleep, I cannot eat, and I have nobody here to talk to, no friends, and certainly no family that I can speak of, and it is literally killing me. I miss your soft gentle touch caressing my side, I miss your beautiful eyes gazing into mine, stealing my soul and binding it with yours, I miss the soft breath of your kisses against my lips, and most of all I miss your comforting words and embrace that would drift over and through me, like a whisper in the wind.
Life here at my Auntie's is no better than living as a maid, I mustn't reveal too much because she will most probably read this letter and scold me for what I am about to say, but it is worth it, because I know that it will reach you in the end, you see I have a friend here, the stable hand, and he knows just how much I have been missing you of late, and so at my request he says that he will hand deliver this letter that I am writing to you as of this very second, to the post man who he will pay the utmost price, to have him bring it to you personally, and so for that I admire him profoundly my only friend with integrity and kindness in this hell of a house that I am calling home.
I am forced to work every single day that I am here and I feel as though if I carry on like this I will surely run out of the energy I have so carefully been conserving will run out and I will just collapse into a slumber, never to be woken again. My guardians, being my Aunt Judith, her husband who is a cranky old thing with a very short temper, my Uncle John, whom I am to address by his 'proper' title Sir Ballenger, is a very stern man indeed, he believes that God gives him the right to rule over women, that being and including me and my Aunt Judith, whom believes this also. I however do not, and being forced to work until my bones ache and my hands bleed is killing me Nicholas it truly is. If I do not comply to his rules and regulations then he beats me Nicholas, he beats me, and he tells me that it is God's ruling not his, but how can this be, when the only God that I have ever known has been kind and giving, a peaceful man who looks after all of his children with equal rights and enforcement's, and even then his rulings are only against people who have sinned profusely, such as killing somebody or, stealing, you understand don't you?
I feel as though it has been a twelvemonth since I have seen you last, when in actual fact I know that it has only been three almost four months, however I am still saddened by our distance and cannot wait to see you again. And so if you attain this letter very soon, or if at all, which I hope so badly that you do, then all I am asking is that you come and visit me, even if it is just for a day, or even just an hour, I would be so immensely happy I think I would burst... And I understand if you have moved on with your life now and found somebody new, I honestly do, as I understand that live goes on no matter how many people may leave your side or float on by, like a passing ship in the night, but I would just like to see you no matter how brief a time together it may be, just as long as I see your beautiful face once again.
I hope to see you soon, and that all is well with you and your brothers, whom I wish you give my greetings to also, I know that you may not want to rescue me as I am not old enough to be granted a place at the Queens court yet, as Jane so kindly pointed out for us, which I am glad of in a way as I know we would have been found out anyway and then where would we be? In jail? In heaven dead, because of our sins? However I do hope with all of my little heart that you just come and visit me for no matter how short a period of time.
All my love and blessings
Your darling love Demetria
Nicholas folded the letter that lay in his hands, smoothing out the crinkles that resided there uneatly, he heaved a heavy sigh as he contemplated what he had just read, allowing it to sink into his being, letting her words soothe him, his one and only love had not forgotten about him, she had remembered him, and for that he thanked God and Jesus a million times over. However the words which he had read only moments ago had caused anger to boil inside him, penetrating his ever fibre, threatening to burst at any moment. His poor darling Demetria, was being treated in such an inhospitable way that it sickened him to his very core, causing him to retch at the idea of her being hurt, and especially by a God fearing man and family, because as Demetria had explained in her letter, God only saught peace and love, nothing more and nothing less, and especially not pain and resentment, as Demetria's hosts and carers seemed to be carrying out.
Nicholas thought no more on the subject, instead he lept up from his sitting stance and bounded down the stairs of the Queens court, as fast as he could manage, dancing around the maids and other people who were resided there for the entirety of the blisteringly hot summer that lay ahead of them all, apologizing to those who got caught up in his haze as he bumped into them, not meaning to of course. Once he had reached the lobby, he charged through to the Queen's hall and approached her with due course.
"Your majesty" Nicholas smiled softly as he bowed to the Queen respectfully
"Yes my dear Nicholas, what is it that I may help you with?" The Queen replied as she gestured for him to sit down with her outheld hand
"Oh no, no thankyou your majesty" Nicholas replied softly as he smiled before continuing "You see, I recieved a letter from Demetria today" He paused as the Queen interupted
"Oh how wonderful Nicholas! What does she say? How is she? Is she coping well?" The Queen asked dutifuly as well and inquislty as she was herself intersted in how the young maid was getting along in hew new home and life, and of course without her beloved Nicholas
"You see your majesty that is where the problem lies" Began he
"Oh and how so my dear Sir?" She questioned in return smiling as she did so, to lighten the somewhat now dampened mood
"Her family are not treating her well your majesty, she says that her uncle beats her when she does not do as she is told, and that her aunt treats her equally as bad" Nicholas replied solomley awaiting the Queens reply dutifuly of course,
"Nicholas my dear I am lost fort words, I am utterly and completely surprised, I fear that I do not know what to do Sir" The Queen replied in complete and utter shock
"Oh your majesty that is why I am here in front of you now, I am here to request to take one of your carriages or even just one of your horses with me to go and collect Demetria and bring her back here safely, otherwise I fear I may have to just walk there no matter how long it may take, I will find my love and I will bring her back safely" Nicholas replied
"Oh my lovely boy, do stop being so silly, of course I will lend you one of my carriages and not just a normal one either, I shall have the finest one possible brought round for you and of course my greatest horse also, so as you can get there faster, to save poor Demetria from her doomed fate" The Queen replied hugely, jumping up from her seat, as she began to lead the way to the lobby once more "Come on dear child do follow me pronto, there is no time to be wasted now is there?" She smiled as she gestured for Nicholas to follow her with her hand waving him along with her as she went
"No your highness, there is not" Nicholas smiled to himself as he replied to the Queen who by now was ordering people around to bring him a coach, kitted with the finest horse and footmen to go with it.
"Now I trust that you will report to me as soon as possible my dear boy?" The Queen smiled through the carriage window as he readied himself for the journey that lay ahead of him.
"Yes your majesty I promise, with all of my heart" Nicholas replied softly smiling as he did so also
"Very good, very good indeed, I am glad to hear it my dear boy! Now you get yourself off and go and safe young Demetria, and don't you come back until you have done so, do you hear me?!" The Queen smiled hugely as she placed her hand over Nicholas' in a motherly gesture
"Yes your highness I do solemnly promise to do so" He smiled as he placed his hand over hers as a thankyou
"Very well then off you go now, your wasting precious time dear boy!" Her majesty exclaimed as she released her grip on him, stepping back to allow the carriage room to move, as she waved him off shouting "Good Luck dear Nicholas" as he went, to which he replied "Thankyou" with a small wave as he rode off into the sunset to find his beloved Demetria who was being held up in the hell hole of a prison, that she had to call home.
Demetria, finished writing her poem that she had been working on all day, as she clambered onto the windowsill that was big enough to fit her small frame onto without her even having to suck in her breath. She laid her head restlessly against the cool pane of the glass that lay beside her, as she allowed her gaze to settle on the majestic gardens that ruled the ground in which it was set, she closed her eyes allowing her memories to flicker into place, most if not all of them including her beloved, Nicholas. Her heart rate slowed down as she reveled in the joy of those memories, holding onto them, as they filled every fibre within her being, exploding in a pure white burst of light, that encased and protected her from all the wrong doings that had been forced upon her of late.
"Get up you stupid little child!" Sounded out a stern voice that Demi had grown to know and hate very well, along with the loud thud of the door that slammed open in that perons wake
"Yes Aunt Judith, I am sorry, I was just having a little rest after completing my work for the morning" Demetria replied as she jumped up from her seat, curtsying to her Aunt in due course, knowing that if she didn't there would be consequences that she didn't want to have to endure, as she was sure that if any more pain was inflicted upon her, her body would collapse from the weight of them.
"A rest?! How can you be talking about a rest you useless little girl, when you know that we have to be in Church for the sunday service in a mere few minuets!" Exclamied her aunt her strode over to Demetria, clasping her brittle arm in her steel like grip, as she rattled her until she screamed out for her to stop
"Yes Aunt Judith I am sorry I shall come now" Demetria replied, her voice trembling, as her eyes threatened to release the hot salty tears that had accumulated in there in the past few moments, due to resent events inflicted by her Aunt once again
"Are you absolutely lacking sense my girl?!" Her aunt screamed in her face as she carried on "You cannot go to Church and sit in front of the almighty lord above, with your hair down like that, you must cover it up with a coif, as you know all women have to in the Catholic strain of our Christian religions and beliefs!" said she as she stormed over to Demetria's dressing table, rummaging through her draws, leafing through her neatly folded clothes, as she searched for a coif, which she found in a matter of seconds, leaving her draws a complete and utter mess, as she charged over to Demetria and shoved it into her hands,
"Now you smarten yourself up and get yourself downstairs in five minuets alright Demetria?" Her aunt Judith spat as she stormed out of the room slamming the door behind her as she went.
Demetria sunk to the floor, as she allowed the tears that had settled themselves inside her eyes, to spill over onto her rose tinted cheeks, sobbing profoundly as she did so, her chest racking slightly, causing the bruises that penetrated her skin to burn with a red hot seering pain, causing her to gasp and lose her breath for a few seconds. She held her sides as she pulled herself together, standing up proudly, pushing her shoulders back, as she stuffed her life filled curls into the coif that her aunt had so undutifuly provided for her, before striding out of her room and down the stairs, to join her family in their weekly outing to Church.
Nicholas hopped out of the cab, thanking the driver and telling him to wait for a few minuets before racing up to the door that lay in front of him, knocking in his wake.
"Hello?" asked a timid voice as the huge oak doors that lay before Nicholas were prized open by a small timid maid, who looked around the same age as his lovely Demetria, except she had bright blonde hair, that lay silky across her shoulders, tumbling down to past her curvy waistline in a pin straight manner.
"Oh hello, I was wondering whether Demetria was in Miss...?" Nicholas smiled gesturing for the young girls name
"Oh I am Miss Nowahin, sorry for not introducing myself earlier" Smiled the young girl as she continued "And sir I am afraid that you have just missed Demetria, she has gone with her family to the church for the weekly service, I am sure that if you go you could find them there" Said she as she smiled
"Oh well thankyou ever so much Nowahin, but do you think you could point me in the right direction please? As I am afraid I do not know this area very well at all" Nicholas replied smiling softly as he did so
"Oh yes sir how silly of me, it is just down the lane to the left of this house, you go down it for about five minuets and you should be there in no time" She smiled as she gave him his answer
"Thankyou you are very kind Miss Nowahin, I shall bid you good day now" Nicholas smiled as he raced to the carriage that awaited his being, waving as he did so
"Goodbye kind sir, I wish you well in your biddings today!" She shouted as he drove off waving as she did so, as did he in return.
The church doors, swung open with a loud bang that resonated around the room causing everyone there to turn towards the person who had made the bone shattering clang, gasping as they did so.
"I am so very sorry to interrupt you all, but i am here to collect my beloved Demetria, does anybody know where she is?" Nicholas asked nicely as he allowed his gaze to scan the crowd that lay before him.
"Nicholas!" Exclaimed a voice he knew and loved so very much
"Demetria?!" Nicholas asked in suprise his face lighting up in seeing her before him
"What are you doing here?" Demetria asked as she took a step towards him
"I came to get you" Nicholas smiled as he reached out to her, when suddenly her uncle stepped in front of Demetria, pushing her back, causing her to stumble slightly and trip up landing on her aunt who shrugged her off with a disgusted look painted across her features.
"Exucse me young sir, but i belive that Demetria, is my niece, and therefore my responsibility, and nobody, not even you who claims to be her saviour and beloved, can take her away from me and us as a family who have looked after her for the past few months" He spat angrily squaring up to a very surprised and angered Nicholas who now stepped closer to him
"You sir have done nothing but beat and abuse my lovely Demetria, she told me so in her letter, and if you deny it, i can but see it in her face which is so worn and bruised, as are her hands, which are red raw with the blood that you have made her work out of her skin, and for that reason i am here to rescue her from your grasp you disgusting little stupid excuse of a man!" Nicholas raised his voice as he continued to speak "Now you shall give me Demetria and we shall be out of your hair, and if not then you shall regret it kind sir!" Nicholas practically shouted as he raged
"You will have nobody today and that is that!" Shouted Demetria's uncle as he grabbed ahold of Demetria and pushed her towards her seat, "You sit down and shut up Demetria and i mean it" He seethed as he turned to face Nicholas who was now fixing his gaze on a very frail and tired Demetria, whose features bore a great sadness, as did her whole demeanour,
"My dear Demetria, RUN!" Nicholas exclaimed as he ran over the pews grabbing her hand and pulling her with him, much to the exclaims of her uncle and aunt, as well as their terrible sons who all tried to chase after them, but were too late, as Nicholas picked up Demetria's fragile frame, gently laying her into the carriage that waited for the two of them thanks to the dutiful footmen who were driving it.
"You came, you actually came" Demetria whispered almost inaudibly, as she reached out to touch Nicholas' face to which he complied
"Of course i came my love, i was never going to leave you with them, the Queen allowed me to use one of her carriages and horses, to come and rescuse you my love" Nicholas explained as he lay his slightly larger hand over hers, caressing, the red raw skin that lay beneath them
"Oh how lovely of her" Demetria beamed as she leaned against Nicholas for support
"Oh Demetria my lovely love, what have they done to you?" Nicholas asked distraught as he caught her in his warm embrace, holding her there for a while before pulling her back
"You are alright aren't you my love?" he asked soflty
"Yes my love i am, now that you are here i am perfectlty fine" Demetria smiled up at him as she leaned over placing her lips softly onto his, causing him to quiver with the pain of not feeling her lips and touch for what felt like an eternity"
"Demetria, oh how i have missed you my dearest love" Nicholas spoke against her lips as she silenced him with yet another kiss, this time both of them completely quiet as they shook with the pleasure of just being close once more.
After a while Demetria settled into the comfortable crook of her beloved Nicholas' chest, drawing patterns against his clothing as she eventually drifted off into a sleep, whilst Nicholas held her dear, and stroked her waistline as she did so. Both of them so happy that they felt they could burst, unaware of what lay ahead but just happy that they were together once again.
